The Crown Season 6: Who is Dodi Fayed?

Dodi Fayed, born Emad El-Din Mohamed Abdel Mena’em Fayed, was an influential Egyptian movie producer. He was the son of the wealthy billionaire, Mohamed Al-Fayed, portrayed by Salim Dau in The Crown Season 6.

Dodi was born in Egypt in 1955 to Mohamed, a businessman who owned the Hôtel Ritz Paris, Harrods department store, and Fulham Football Club. His mother, Samira Khashoggi, was an author from Saudi Arabia and the sister of Adnan Khashoggi, a billionaire arms dealer.

Fayed attended Collège Saint Marc and the Institut Le Rosey, and briefly enrolled at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Subsequently, he worked as an attaché at the United Arab Emirates Embassy in London.

Due to the presence of his family's production company, Allied Stars, Dodi Fayed played a role as an executive producer for renowned films such as Chariots of Fire, Breaking Glass, F/X, F/X2, Hook, and The Scarlet Letter.

Prior to encountering the Princess of Wales, Fayed tied the knot with model Suzanne Gregard; however, their marriage ended in divorce after 8 months. At the moment of his encounter with Diana, Fayed had already committed to marrying model Kelly Fisher.

The Crown Season 6 Part 1 showcases the orchestrated meeting between Dodi Fayed and Diana in St Tropez, arranged by his father Mohamed, who considered Kelly unworthy of their prestigious family name. Initially, the pair maintained a friendly relationship, but their connection rapidly evolved into a romantic affair, ultimately leading to the dissolution of Fayed's engagement.

According to the show, Mohamed was controlling the situation, pressuring Dodi to propose soon after meeting. There have been conflicting reports about the depth of love between Diana and Dodi. The Crown hints that they were still just friends on the night of the tragic car crash, as Dodi never had the chance to share the news with his dominant father.

Dodi Fayed lost his life in the same fatal car accident as Diana in Paris in 1997. As depicted in The Crown, Fayed died instantly, while Diana was rushed to the hospital due to internal bleeding. Representatives for Fayed claimed that the couple had recently gotten engaged, although this remains unverified.

Mohamed attended Diana's funeral, although he was positioned several rows behind the Royal family. Additionally, tributes were set up in honor of both Diana and Dodi Fayed by the latter's father. Dodi Fayed was laid to rest in Surrey in October 1997.

As a Gen Z fan, I am excited about the introduction of Dodi Fayed in the new season of The Crown. It will be interesting to see how the show portrays his relationship with Princess Diana and how it contributes to the overall narrative of the season.

I am also curious to see how the show will handle the controversial aspects of Fayed's life, such as his alleged involvement in the arms trade and his death in the car crash that also killed Diana. Overall, I think the addition of Fayed's character will add a new layer of complexity and intrigue to the show, and I am looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
