The Crown may be ending in two parts, but its creator, Peter Morgan, and Netflix chief, Ted Sarandos, are not ready to bid farewell to the British Royal Family just yet. In a new profile in Variety, Morgan admits that the show has been a tremendous challenge but believes that the era of cinematic television is coming to an end. However, he hints that he may not be done with it entirely. He describes these types of shows as rare and dying, leading him to cherish the memories they create. He also reveals that he has an idea for a potential series exploring the history of the Royals but needs to focus on other projects first. If he were to revisit The Crown, it would involve going back in time.

Netflix chief, Sarandos, expresses his confidence in Peter's abilities and is open to exploring any stories he believes need to be told. The final two parts of the show will cover a six-decade span and will conclude not only the stories of the Windsor family but also the tragic life of Diana, Princess of Wales, who will be the central focus of the opening four episodes.

Part 1 features the return of Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Dominic West as Prince Charles. Imelda Staunton continues as Queen Elizabeth II, alongside Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret. Salim Daw (Mohamed Al Fayed) and Khalid Abdalla (Dodi Fayed) also reprise their roles, while newcomers Rufus Kampa (Prince William) and Fflyn Edwards (Prince Harry) join the cast. In Part 2, Ed McVey and Luther Ford take on the roles of Prince William and Prince Harry, respectively. Meg Bellamy joins them as Kate Middleton. It's worth noting that these are the debut roles for all three actors.
