Ubisoft has removed The Crew from all digital stores and plans to close the online servers on March 31, 2024.
On The Crew's Steam page, Ubisoft posted a message about the game's removal. "The Crew is no longer on the Steam store," the notice stated. "All versions and add-ons for The Crew are no longer for sale. The game will continue to be playable for all The Crew owners until March 31st, 2024. After this date, the servers will shut down and the game will no longer be accessible."
When visiting the game's PSN page, an error message is displayed, indicating that the game cannot be purchased digitally. However, The Crew can still be played through Ubisoft+ on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, despite no longer being available for purchase on the Microsoft Store. Due to its always-online requirement, the game will become unplayable once the servers are shut down, rendering its single-player campaign inaccessible.
The Crew 2 remains unaffected and is still available on all digital storefronts, while the latest addition to the franchise, The Crew Motorfest, received much higher review scores than the original game or its sequel.
In our review on the website, we expressed disappointment with The Crew, citing difficulties in finding online crew members, outdated graphics, and issues with AI and physics. Server problems also led to a search for a different game to play, leaving The Crew in the dust.
Editor's P/S
As a passionate fan of racing games, I am deeply saddened by the news that The Crew's online service will be discontinued in March 2024. This game holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of the first racing games I ever played. I spent countless hours exploring the vast open world, competing in races, and customizing my cars. The sense of freedom and exhilaration I felt while playing The Crew was unmatched.
However, I understand that all good things must come to an end. The gaming industry is constantly evolving, and newer, more advanced games are being released all the time. It is only natural that older games like The Crew eventually become obsolete. While I am disappointed that I will no longer be able to play The Crew online, I am grateful for the memories and experiences it has given me. I will always cherish the time I spent with this game and will continue to look forward to new and exciting racing games in the future.
