The Tevinter Imperium, set to be showcased in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, is the oldest enduring civilization in Thedas, with its origins dating back to the fall of Arlathan. At its peak, the Imperium stretched across Thedas from its heartland of Tevinter to the southernmost point of Ferelden in Ostagrar. Despite being ravaged by the First Blight and facing subsequent Blights, Exalted Marches, and Qunari invasions, the Imperium remains a formidable power in Thedas.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will unfold during a pivotal moment in the Imperium's history, where it stands at a crossroads. This period of transformation will introduce the player to a range of newly-formed factions, established in Dragon Age: Inquisition - Trespasser, Tevinter Nights, and Dragon Age: The Missing.
Tevinter Factions Like the Lucerni Are Led By Friendly Faces
The Lucerni is a political faction within the magisterium that was founded by Dorian and his close friend Maevaris Tilani upon Dorian's return to his homeland. Their main objective is to redeem and reform Tevinter by eradicating corrupt practices, such as blood magic and slavery, which are sources of power for magisters. The majority of Lucerni members are idealistic magisters who lack political experience and influence, preventing them from achieving their goals independently. Given their significant presence in additional Dragon Age material, it is likely that they will serve as allies in the fight against the Venatori and Solas, offering players the opportunity to bring positive change to Tevinter.
Introduced in Dragon Age: The Missing, a new faction in Tevinter called the Shadow Dragons aims to assist former slaves within and beyond the city of Minrathous. So far, the only known member of this faction is Neve Gallus, a mage turned private investigator who was the protagonist of the Tevinter Nights short story titled "The Streets of Minrathous." The role of Neve and the Shadow Dragons is further explored in The Missing as they confront Solas' elven forces in their attempts to rescue slaves.
Old Enemies Could Return in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf
The defeat of Corypheus did not bring an end to the troubles caused by the Venatori in their homeland of Tevinter. In fact, some members of the magisterium are secretly supporting them in an attempt to revive Tevinter's former glory. The Venatori are expected to serve as a minor antagonistic group, opposing both the player and Solas' forces. Due to their powerful backers and years of covert activities, they may prove to be more challenging to overcome than initially anticipated.
While the Chantry is not exclusive to Tevinter, the Imperial Chantry distinguishes itself through several key differences. Unlike the Chantry encountered in Ferelden, the Free Marches, and Orlais, the head of the Imperial Chantry, known as the Black Divine, is always a male mage. Similar to the Orlesian Chantry, the Imperial Chantry holds significant power and will undoubtedly pose as a formidable force in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
In Tevinter, mages acquire their skills within the Circles of Magi, which differ from those in southern Thedas as they resemble universities rather than prisons. Even in the upcoming game, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the Tevinter Circles of Magi remain active and even have their own group of Templars. However, these Templars in Tevinter do not rely on lyrium and are not as effective as their counterparts in the South. The Tevinter Circles hold great power in society, with members including the magisterium, the Black Divine, and the Archon. Their involvement in future events is almost certain. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is currently being developed.
