The third act of the game can be quite lengthy, with bosses becoming challenging due to their speed and overall health. However, they introduce exciting mechanics to the battles.
In Lies of P, the encounter with the Black Rabbit Brotherhood provides a unique twist on the Shadows of Yharnam boss fight in Bloodborne. However, their second encounter in the latter part of the game becomes monotonous and diminishes its initial impact.
The boss fights and mini-boss encounters in Lies of P are truly memorable, considering the game's length on a first playthrough. With 11 chapters, each with its own distinct locations to explore, there is always something waiting for players at every Stargazer checkpoint. While the game may feel drawn out in its third act, the bosses during this stage can be challenging due to their speed and strength. However, they also bring unique mechanics to the fights, making them interesting and engaging.
Encountering a Stalker is always nerve-wracking, as players are unsure whether they will be friendly or hostile. Additionally, areas with blue plague mist are typically more difficult, especially when facing the giant scorpion-like carcass beasts that bear resemblance to Elden Ring's Fallingstar Beasts. Surprisingly, there are fewer boss fights inspired by Bloodborne compared to what fans might have expected. This lack of representation could be seen as a disadvantage for Lies of P, although their interpretation of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood encounter offers a fresh take on the Shadows of Yharnam boss fight.
Lies of P’s Black Rabbit Brotherhood Could’ve Been a Great Shadows of Yharnam Antithesis
Prior to the release of Lies of P, the Scrapped Watchman hinted that the game would offer unique interpretations of several Bloodborne bosses, drawing inspiration from Darkbeast Paarl. While Lies of P embraces many familiar elements and themes from FromSoftware's action-RPG, it also surprises players with innovative boss encounters and remarkably imaginative enemy designs.
One boss in particular, Lies of P's Romeo, King of Puppets, has proven to be quite challenging for players during the middle of the game. With two distinct phases that are contrasting yet equally formidable, Romeo presents a significant obstacle. The only other boss in Lies of P that bears some resemblance to a boss from Bloodborne is the Black Rabbit Brotherhood ensemble. This boss battle pays homage to the Shadows of Yharnam by featuring multiple bosses within a single arena.
Bloodborne’s Shadows of Yharnam and Lies of P’s Black Rabbit Brotherhood have a tenuous connection. However, the latter could have been even better if not for a repetitive boss fight later in the game. The initial Black Rabbit Brotherhood boss fight occurs in the Malum District, where players face the Eldest alone. As the Eldest's health diminishes, the other Brotherhood members join the battle, with the Eldest being less aggressive compared to the Youngest, Eccentric, and Battle Maniac. To succeed, players should gradually weaken the Eldest and eliminate each affiliate individually, leaving only the Eldest with low health once the others are defeated.
The Eldest's death leads to the departure of the others, who plan their revenge. While it could have been a satisfying alternative to the chaotic and outnumbered encounter of Bloodborne's Shadows of Yharnam, the Black Rabbit Brotherhood continues their involvement in the game. They corner the player for a second round in the Relic of Trismegistus Combat Field beneath Hotel Krat. The fight is similar to the first one, with the three smaller members present in the arena at once, each with their own health bar. However, they still take more damage than the Eldest and engage one by one. When only one affiliate remains with low health, or if they all reach a low health threshold, the Eldest emerges as an undead carcass from the arena's coffin, with a slightly different set of moves. While this fight is not more difficult or tedious than the initial encounter, it feels repetitive due to its mirrored gimmick.
Lies of P is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
