In a recent interview with Game Rant, developer David Board discusses the improved gameplay features in Lifeless Moon, as well as the mechanics that take center stage during gameplay. The game is currently available on PC, and there are plans to release it on consoles in the future, allowing players to embark on this new and mysterious adventure from Stage 2 Studio.

Lifeless Moon Improves on Predecessor’s Mechanics, Puts New Features in the Spotlight

Lifeless Planet, released in 2014, gained a devoted following and became a cult hit due to its captivating atmosphere and mystique. The narrative unfolds on a supposedly vibrant planet, only to reveal a desolate landscape and evidence of previous human exploration. Similar to its successor, Lifeless Planet delves into humanity's fascination with space travel, raising questions about the kind of person who would sacrifice everything for a one-way journey and what one would do upon discovering humanity's prior presence in a distant galaxy.

Fast forward to 2023 and the release of Lifeless Moon, which acts as a loose prequel to its predecessor. It explores similar themes of space travel, Cold War Era aesthetics, and the investigation of peculiar cosmic phenomena. Board, the creator, aimed to retain the mechanics from the first game while enhancing them through personal experience and input from the gaming community.

Among the expected features that players can anticipate are even more visually stunning cinematic cutscenes and captivating landscapes. Additionally, the jetpack, which allowed Board to create more captivating and vast environments while eliminating the monotonous exploration seen in Lifeless Planet, will make a comeback. The environments themselves have undergone a remarkable enhancement as well; they not only feel less linear but also undergo frequent changes, ensuring that players are constantly surprised and engaged.

In Lifeless Planet, there are two notable improvements that the Board specifically highlights as being more prominent than before. The first is the inclusion of puzzles. Lifeless Moon presents a range of puzzles that immerse the player in a first-person perspective, aiding in the discovery of clues and the resolution of mysteries. This alternating perspective not only adds diversity to gameplay but also allows players to engage more directly with the experience, explains the Board.

For Board, the significance of the narrative is further intensified due to a personal tragedy that struck him recently - the loss of his best friend, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver. Board hopes that players will be able to resonate with the story on a personal level, or at the very least gain a broader perspective from it.
