How to beat the One True King in Remnant 2
For a more effective strategy against the One True King in Remnant 2's The Awakened King DLC, it is crucial to take into consideration his relentless melee attacks, lethal flame breath, and regenerative abilities. However, prior to delving into the encounter itself, we highly recommend consulting our comprehensive Nimue decisions/rewards guide. This is because you have various choices on how to handle the goddess Nimue and the deranged monarch himself. Your decisions regarding Nimue, as well as the timing of the boss fight, will determine the specific rewards you receive.
One True King boss abilities
When you use the regular kill method, you will be rewarded with the Monarch weapon. However, if you choose the alternate kill method, you will need to obtain a few unique items, but your efforts will be rewarded with the Wrathbringer weapon.
One True King boss abilities
Once the fight starts, the Remnant 2 One True King boss will transport you to a separate throne room. This formidable opponent possesses a range of devastating abilities:
Teleportation: Expect frequent teleports by The One True King in his throne room, requiring quick adjustments to your aim.
Melee Crush: With his club, the boss will make up to two attempts to smash you. The attack animation is moderately slow, allowing you to evade it by performing a dodge-roll.
Ground Pound - The boss utilizes a massive mallet to strike the ground, generating a shockwave that radiates outward. This impact will momentarily incapacitate your character, and you must roll to recover control. Additionally, when the boss's HP drops below 50%, this move is combined with other attacks, such as a dual strike that triggers explosive eruptions.
Flame Breath - Engulfing your position in flames, the boss exhales fire that relentlessly pursues you as you maneuver for a few seconds.
Shatterstorm - The boss will emit a radiant golden glow, drawing you towards them before unleashing a powerful explosion. It is crucial to continuously roll away from your enemy.
Dran Summon and Healing - The boss will levitate and become momentarily invulnerable to any harm. They will then summon a group of twelve Dran villagers. It is imperative to eliminate them quickly, as failing to do so will result in the boss regaining a portion of their health correlating to the surviving Dran mobs' health. Additionally, pillars of flame will sporadically emerge from the ground, so it is advisable to constantly keep moving.
Best archetypes/classes and weapons to use against the One True King
We have engaged in multiple battles against the Remnant 2 One True King boss in order to explore various outcomes and rewards. In our experience, we have found that the Engineer class proves to be an exceptional choice due to its turret's ability to target both the boss and the Dran mobs. For solo players, the Medic and Handler starting classes offer admirable options. The former provides unparalleled healing capabilities, while the latter possesses a loyal dog companion that can regenerate your HP and even revive you if you should fall.
When it comes to weaponry, our top pick was the Enigma due to its Chaos Driver modification. This enhancement allowed us to consistently damage the boss by firing several rods while evading its attacks. Additionally, the default firing mode of the Enigma caused a chain lightning effect, making it an excellent choice for damaging both the boss and his melee weapon, as well as the multitude of additional enemies that appeared.
It is essential to eliminate most, if not all, of the Dran mobs. Failure to do so will result in the boss regaining a portion of his health.
Normal kill: Agony Spike material and Monarch weapon
Successfully defeating the One True King boss in the conventional manner rewards you with the Agony Spike material. This item can be exchanged for the Remnant 2 Monarch long gun at Ward 13. The Remnant 2 Monarch possesses the following characteristics:
Unique modification: Chain of Command - Engage Harpoon Mode to designate a target, enabling primary fire to transform into homing projectiles that inflict 15% attenuated damage; opponents struck by the homing projectiles accumulate Influence. Upon reaching maximum Influence, Monarch initiates an automatic reload and unleashes a shockwave. The operator acquires a 20% damage boost and endless ammunition reserves. This enhancement remains effective for a duration of 20 seconds.
Damage: 12
RPS: 10.5
Magazine: 60/240
Crit chance: 10%
Weak spot damage bonus: 105%
Alternate kill: Tormentor's Pommel material and Wrathbringer weapon
The Monarch in Remnant 2 functions as a fully-automatic shredder, providing a continuous stream of bullets. While each individual bullet may not inflict significant damage, the goal is to activate its Harpoon Mode to quickly accumulate Influence. By doing so, you will unlock enhanced damage and an unlimited ammo buff, making it highly effective for taking down multiple targets.
Alternate kill: Tormentor's Pommel material and Wrathbringer weapon
To defeat the One True King boss in Remnant 2 using the alternate kill method, you must equip two out of three unique items before engaging in combat. These items are typically connected to the One True King's background and history.
One True King's Sigil - Obtain this by defeating the Faerin or Faelin boss in the Beatific Palace during a Losomn run. After defeating one boss, return to their counterpart to receive the sigil. Repeat this process with the other opponent and claim their counterpart's sigil. Upon visiting Nimue in the regular Losomn zone, you can acquire the One True King's Sigil.
Assassin's Dagger - Find this quest item, the Assassin's Dagger, during the "Who Is Guilty?" investigation in the Council Chamber in Losomn. It is located at the back of the throne. Instead of using it for the side quest involving the councilors, hand it over to Nimue. As a result, you will receive a variant of the Assassin's Dagger as a weapon.
Crown of the Red Prince - To obtain the Crown of the Red Prince, you need to follow the steps mentioned above and ensure that you already possess the Assassin's Dagger. Defeat the Red Prince, the boss located in the Gilded Chamber dungeon in Losomn. You must land the final blow using the Assassin's Dagger. It is crucial to avoid any other forms of damage, such as turrets, minions, or damage-over-time effects, when the boss is at low health. Successfully executing this strategy will grant you the Crown of the Red Prince.
The One True King will be greatly displeased if you equip specific items that remind him of his downfall. As evident above, acquiring these items may take a while, particularly due to multiple reruns of Adventure Mode. Once you possess at least two of the aforementioned items, make sure to equip them before conversing with the One True King. When selecting a response marked with crossed swords icon (indicating combat initiation), the One True King will comment on your insolence and threaten to punish you for daring to wear such items. Defeat him in the usual manner to obtain the Tormentor's Pommel material.
Note that when we initially tried wearing only the Crown of the Red Prince, we still ended up obtaining the Agony Spike. However, it wasn't until we equipped at least two items, the Crown of the Red Prince and One True King's Sigil, that we finally received the Tormentor's Pommel. We did give it another shot and equipped all three items, but unfortunately, we still ended up with the Tormentor's Pommel.
As you take more damage, the hits from the Wrathbringer become increasingly powerful. Regardless, by completing the Remnant 2 One True King alternate kill, you will acquire the Wrathbringer melee weapon, which possesses the following characteristics:
Unique mod: Awakening - Incoming damage grants the Awakening buff, increasing melee damage by 5% per stack for 10 seconds; maximum of 10 stacks.
Damage: 101
Crit chance: 6%
Weak spot modifier: 85%
The stagger modifier is set at 80%. It is important to remember that the melee boost of the Wrathbringer applies to self-inflicted damage as well, including the bleeding debuff caused by the Atonement Fold ring sold by Leywise the Scribe. Therefore, it is expected to have the boost active at all times, but be cautious about your character's health.
Here's all the information you need on the Remnant 2 One True King boss fight, alternate kill method, and rewards. Keep in mind that the Awakened King DLC offers various outcomes and rewards based on your choices regarding Nimue.
