Episode 17 recap
In the 17th episode, an unidentified student was targeted by the Testament of Carnamagos, leading Chise to gather stones for Alexandra Heath to aid the remaining attacked students. Liza Quillyn emerged and announced that all the students would be informed about the incident the following day. The aforementioned student returned and forcefully grasped Chise's hand, draining her magical abilities. The student's arm swelled and darkened, appearing on the verge of bursting until Elias stepped in to intervene.
Elias suspected that the Testament was attempting to steal Chise's magical abilities. He also theorized that the book had the ability to manipulate or influence its user. Jasmine St. Violet suddenly awakened, claiming to feel improved. Subsequently, several other students also woke up feeling better.
In Fabio Zaccheroni's class, Chise and her companions were tasked with maneuvering through a maze while battling familiars. Meanwhile, Elias and Alcyone engaged in a conversation about their relationships with Chise and Philomela, respectively.
As Christmas was nearing, Chise started crafting small wooden trinkets, while the rest became restless thinking about the attacker and their confinement. A few students proposed taking matters into their own hands by searching for the assailant, ultimately leading to the suspicion falling on Lucy.
In the meantime, Veronica paid a visit to Philomela, pretending to be friendly but with hidden intentions.
What to expect (speculative)
Veronica, who has been established as an antagonist, will temporarily take a backseat in The Ancient Magus' Bride season 2 episode 18. This will pave the way for future episodes to delve deeper into Veronica's true intentions and whether they are indeed malicious.
In the meantime, this episode will shift the focus towards Chise's involvement in the Testament attacks and the reasons behind her magic being a prime target. Fans can anticipate the return of Lizbeth Sergeant, as Veronica has reached out to Philomela and Alcyone, hinting at Lizbeth's reappearance.
