Unlocking The Alchemist in Diablo 4The Alchemist's Products And Services
Venturing into the unforgiving wilderness of Sanctuary presents its challenges, making assistance from a friendly NPC a welcomed relief for even the most skilled players. In Diablo 4, the Alchemist transcends the role of a mere merchant and offers valuable services such as crafting useful items and refining resources for diverse purposes.
Staying true to the franchise's legacy, Diablo 4 allows players to effortlessly access health potions with a single button or key during intense combat. However, the inclusion of the Alchemist introduces a novel feature, enabling players to craft unique consumables that enhance their strength and expedite their progress in gaining experience.
Characters don't have professions in Diablo 4, so it's up to the player to gather the materials, head back to town, and make friends with the friendly neighborhood Alchemist.
Unlocking The Alchemist in Diablo 4
Once a character reaches level 10, a priority quest will be activated in their Quest Log. The only requirement to complete this quest is to pay a visit to the Alchemist in Kyovashad, along with a certain amount of gold and the necessary ingredients, in order to enhance their healing potion.
At this stage, acquiring Gallowvine is essential as it is widely available throughout the Sanctuary. A nominal fee is required for obtaining it. However, for advanced level potions, intricate components are necessary, making them more costly. Following the unlocking of the Alchemist, their comprehensive array of services becomes visible. These services are organized into four tabs and can be categorized into two primary types:
1. Consumables: Alchemists have the ability to produce individual elixirs and group-enhancing incense. The availability of these items is dependent on the player's level, available resources, and the amount of gold they can afford to spend.
The Alchemist possesses the ability to refine various resources carried by players, extending beyond just plants. Leather and ore can also be refined by the Alchemist, resulting in more sophisticated materials that can be utilized by the Blacksmith or Jeweler.
When the Alchemist is unlocked, it has a universal impact on the entire account. Once a character reaches level 10 and completes a straightforward task, all other characters under the same account gain access to perusing the Alchemist's products. However, the availability of what they can create, buy, and utilize is dependent on their individual level.
The Alchemist's Products And Services
Alchemists may not be available in every town, so it is advisable to utilize their portal and hearth abilities when in need of their products. While consumables like scrolls or keys can be purchased from other vendors, there are also rare potions in the wild that are not available from the Alchemist's selection.
It is important to note that the Alchemist cannot replenish the character's health potion or hit point supply; this can only be done by a Healer, who is relatively easier to find. The Alchemist's role is solely to enhance the potency and quantity of potions that the player can carry. Additionally, players can increase their capacity for health potions by achieving recognition in specific zones.
Elixirs
Elixirs in the game are quantified in percentages and can be crafted at different levels similar to health potions. As players venture further into Sanctuary and collect rare plants and herbs, they will be able to create more potent elixirs.
Each elixir grants an experience bonus and enhances the character's resistance to specific types of magical or elemental damage. Some elixirs also boost the damage dealt to particular types of enemies or enhance defensive and offensive capabilities.
Grades of elixirs start from Weak, progress to the level of potency known without an adjective, then advance to Strong, followed by Potent, finally culminating in the highest strength available which is Heady.
Elemental Resistance | Effect |
Elixir of Cold Resistance | Increases resistance to cold damage, including the slow or freezing DoT that would come from the same effect. |

Elixir of Fire Resistance | Increases resistance to fire damage, which is more common in dungeons or when fighting bosses and demons. |
Elixir of Lightning Resistance | Increases resistance to electrical damage, which is used by Sorcerers more than anyone, so a good choice for PvP. |
Elixir of Shadow Resistance | Increases resistance to cold damage, commonly used by cultists and other human and undead sites in the wilderness. |

Elixir of Beast Slaying | Increases damage to virtually any animal found in the wild along with critters in dungeons and cellars, so probably the most useful available. |

Elixir of Demon Slaying | Stockpile a few of these for the main story campaign that involves pursuing Lilith, fighting her minions, and following her into the Burning Hells. |
Elixir of Undead Slaying | Other than demons, the Undead make up most of the supernatural enemies in Sanctuary. Get a boost to damage against them using this elixir. |
Defensive, Offensive, or Mobility | Effect |
Acrobatics Elixir | Faster Evade reduction time. |
Iron Barb Elixir | Increases armor and the strength of the Thorns ability. |
