However, it is unclear if Teems is still connected to the project.

The adaptation of Stephen King's novella The Breathing Method has received a dark development update. Previously, director Scott Derrickson was attached to the project. The story, originally published in 1982 as part of the collection Different Seasons, revolves around a woman in the 1930s who fiercely protects her illegitimate unborn child. She goes to extreme lengths, such as continuing her unique "breathing method" to help birth the child even after she is decapitated in a car accident.

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Scott Derrickson provided an update on The Breathing Method. Although he expressed his strong admiration for the screenplay, he revealed that he is no longer involved with the project, preventing him from sharing any further substantial updates.

I am unaware of the current status of the rights in relation to that. It is unclear whether it is presently in development. I collaborated with Scott Teems, who has worked on the Halloween films and possibly one of the Insidious films, to develop a script. He did an outstanding job, and I genuinely admired the script as it was highly imaginative and a commendable adaptation. Regrettably, it did not progress any further. I am no longer associated with it, therefore I have no information regarding its whereabouts.

Announced in 2012,

was originally scheduled for development with Derrickson already attached as the director. His involvement came after his successful stint with the Blumhouse horror hit, Sinister, which grossed $87.7 million from a modest $3 million budget. He had also previously helmed other notable horror films such as Hellraiser: Inferno and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Teems' involvement as a screenwriter was announced back in 2012. However, there was no further update on the project until 2019 when a confirmation was made regarding Teems and Derrickson's continued involvement. Unfortunately, the project went dormant again until Derrickson's recent comment.

During the years since The Breathing Method was announced, both creators have worked on other horror projects. Derrickson even directed The Black Phone in 2022, an adaptation of a story by King's son, Joe Hill. If Derrickson is no longer a part of the project, it raises the question of whether Teems, who wrote Halloween Kills, Firestarter, and Insidious: The Red Door, is still attached. Without a director, the movie is unlikely to enter production anytime soon, assuming it is still being considered.
