UEFA confirmed that the qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden for UEFA Euro 2024 has been abandoned due to a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels. After consulting with the teams and local police authorities, it was decided to halt the match. Further updates will be provided in the future.
An earlier announcement in Belgium's national stadium stated that the players had decided not to continue the game in light of the events that occurred earlier in Brussels.
The statement was made in English, French, Dutch and Swedish and applauded by a crowd of over 35,000.

According to Swedish broadcaster TV6, the Swedish players informed UEFA of their refusal to continue playing the second half, a decision that was supported by the Belgium team. The shooting occurred approximately three miles (5km) away from the King Baudouin Stadium, and currently, the gunman remains at large.
Belgium's National Crisis Centre raised the terror alert in the city to the highest level on Monday night. It has been moved to the second highest for the rest of Belgium.

According to initial reports from Brussels, the victims were wearing Swedish football jerseys when the incident occurred, moments before the match between the two nations at the King Baudouin Stadium on the outskirts of the city.

The Swedish FA emphasized the importance for Swedish supporters in Brussels to remain inside the arena for their safety. They should actively seek information from officials, authorities, and SvFF staff present at the scene.
