Jason Blum and James Wan recently provided an exciting update on the Insidious franchise spinoff, Thread: An Insidious Tale, in a recent interview. They discussed their plans for the future and gave fans a better idea of what to expect from the film. Both Blum and Wan have been involved in the horror series since its inception in 2011, with Wan also serving as the director for the first two films. Insidious: The Red Door, starring Patrick Wilson, Ty Simpkins, and Rose Byrne, is set to be released this July. In the interview with Screen Rant, Blum and Wan compared Thread to The Conjuring, providing fans with a promising insight into the themes and storytelling of the movie.
Jason Blum: We're aware of the discussions surrounding it, but I can't say how much we're actively discussing it. James was actually the one who came up with the idea, so he'll have more information on it than I do.
James Wan: Yeah, Thread is essentially a continuation of The Further's universe, similar to how in my Conjuring films, we have the Warrens' haunted museum with various haunted artifacts that can inspire spinoff stories. Thread is a project that embodies that same concept. Leigh and I created The Further in the Insidious world, and we believed that there were numerous stories within it that we could tell. This potential spinoff is one of those stories we hope to bring to fruition.

Can The Insidious Spinoff Reach The Same Success As The Conjuring?
Having been created by Wan, the franchises of The Conjuring and Insidious have both achieved considerable success in their own respective ways. Interestingly, these two series share numerous similarities, leading certain fans to speculate that The Conjuring and Insidious exist in the same universe. Nevertheless, it remains challenging to anticipate whether a spinoff could attain the same remarkable triumph as that of The Conjuring or the original Insidious films.
Content: Spinoffs are inherently risky as they frequently eliminate beloved characters or deviate too far from the themes that initially captivated viewers. However, Wan and Blum, who have an impressive history in the horror film genre, are well-prepared to navigate these narrative challenges. This latest adaptation of the Insidious spinoff shows great potential, although it appears that fans will have to exercise patience before its theatrical release.
