Hyun-soo, captured by the military, manages to temporarily thwart Ui-myeong's plan. As they discuss bringing together individuals with the same unique infection, Hyun-soo realizes their conflicting ideals. During their journey, Ui-myeong is injured and taken into custody by the military alongside Hyun-soo. However, Hyun-soo is determined to find a possible cure.
He encounters Dr. Lim, a scientist conducting experiments on monsters out of personal curiosity and under government orders. During a test, it becomes clear that there is something unique about Hyun-soo when a violent monster displays human emotion and recoils from him.
However, the situation deteriorates within the safe zone, with the government turning against the military and the remaining survivors. In the midst of the chaos, Ui-myeong is alive and releases some of the monsters, posing a threat to everyone present. Determined to prevent loss of life, Hyun-soo escapes from his confinement to confront Ui-myeong and thwart his actions.
Is Hyun-soo alive?
Just as he prepares to deliver the final blow, Ui-myeong plunges his weapon beneath Hyun-soo’s “wing,” releasing a toxic sludge that begins to corrode the wing, transforming it into ashen stone. The decay swiftly spreads across Hyun-soo's body. With his parting words, Ui-myeong leaves Hyun-soo standing motionless in the doorway. The door then begins to close, crushing him before the scene shifts to Yi-kyung.
In Sweet Home Season 2, it is revealed that Hyun-soo is still alive after his battle with Ui-myeong, but the circumstances surrounding his survival remain unknown. Following the government's bombing of the stadium, the focus of the season shifts to the other characters who have sought refuge underground to escape the onslaught of monsters. During this time, the whereabouts of Hyun-soo are uncertain as the narrative shifts to Eun-yoo, a nomad who finds herself under attack by monsters while exploring outside in a factory.
Suddenly they disappear and she catches a glimpse of someone with a unique wing. Could it be Hyun-soo? In Episode 6 of Sweet Home Season 2, Eun-yoo confronts Ah-yi, the daughter of Yi-kyung. Demonstrating her disdain for humans, Ah-yi shoves Eun-yoo into a hole.
However, Hyun-soo comes to her rescue. It is then revealed that he did survive after being attacked by Ui-myeong. How? He never provides an explanation, and he seems injured when he discovers Yi-kyung and the monstrous baby she has given birth to.
After abandoning her daughter, Hyun-soo takes her in and raises her. Over the years, he cares for Ah-yi until her mother returns and wants to try to care for her. The two protect Ah-yi as much as possible, while keeping an eye on her unique birth. Throughout the K-drama, Hyun-soo tries to be a voice of reason for Ah-yi, who dislikes humanity and hates her mother.
When Ah-yi sets fire to the boat, Hyun-soo rescues her and brings her to Eun-yoo and the others for help. Without resources, she will die regardless. When Ah-yi arrives to say her goodbyes, she purposely infects her mother.
Yi-kyung transforms into a pure monster, and Hyun-soo learns from her dreams that she has always been suffering, unable to control the monster within her. With no alternative, Hyun-soo is compelled to end her life, leaving him drained and in need of rest.
When Eun-yoo arrives to check on him, she discovers that it is not Hyun-soo but rather his eyes are blue, suggesting that his monstrous side has taken over. Sweet Home Season 2 leaves Hyun-soo's story unresolved as the unpredictable monster becomes the center of attention.
