Jeff Probst announced that the 50th season of Survivor will feature returning players.

This announcement was made by Probst on Saturday, April 27, during a Survivor Q&A event at the Ovation Hollywood complex in Los Angeles.

At the end of the event, the host and showrunner shared an exciting idea about the future of Survivor. Survivor 50 is on the horizon, although the focus is currently on seasons 47 and 48, with 49 on the agenda. The question arises: should Survivor 50 feature new players or returning favorites? The audience quickly responded with a resounding "No!" to the idea of new players. When asked about the possibility of bringing back past players for the milestone season, the response was overwhelmingly positive.

Probst expressed his desire to let the fans have a say in the game, suggesting that Survivor 50 should feature returning players. Despite potential concerns from CBS, he felt strongly about making this decision.

Following his announcement at the FYC event in Hollywood, Probst confirmed the plan for Survivor 50 to showcase returning players through a video on Instagram. The decision was made in response to the support and enthusiasm of the fans in attendance.

Survivor 50 is scheduled to start filming around Memorial Day 2025, marking 25 years since the show first aired on CBS. The new season is expected to be broadcast in spring 2026, but the theme has not been revealed yet.

This decision by Probst follows the announcement made last month by the show's runner and executive producer. They mentioned that there would be no returning players at least until season 48, which is currently airing as the 46th season. The show has not brought back any players for a second time since season 40, Survivor: Winners at War.

Probst explained to Entertainment Weekly on February 16 that he is not yet thinking about bringing back returning players for future seasons. He believes there is still plenty of time to keep moving forward. Probst mentioned that they are currently in the process of meeting and selecting the contestants for seasons 47 and 48, and he is excited about the upcoming players.
