Survivor 46 Contestant Liz Wilcox Surprised by Unexpected Emotional Breakdown During Game (Exclusive)

Survivor 46 contestant Liz Wilcox opens up about her unexpected emotional breakdown following the Applebee's reward challenge. Find out why she never anticipated such a powerful reaction in the intense game environment.

Liz Wilcox did not expect to have a meltdown over not being selected for Survivor 46’s Applebee's reward. She expressed her surprise in an exclusive interview with We on May 23, following the season finale. Despite the unexpected outburst, Liz found comfort in knowing that other former players had similar experiences.

One of the standout moments in Survivor 46 was when Q Burdette won the Applebee’s-themed reward challenge but did not choose Liz to join him. Liz had been open about her allergies to coconut, papaya, chicken, pasta, and more throughout the season. Despite the challenges of playing with these allergies, she managed well at camp.

Liz shared, “Food wasn't a big focus for me, and I believe my fellow castaways felt the same way, until it was right in front of us.”

Liz's favorite food item is Applebee's bourbon burger, which she looks forward to every Wednesday night when she dines with her daughter. This particular burger was the highlighted item on the menu during a challenge, making it even more disappointing for Liz when she wasn't chosen to try it.

Despite the setback, Liz shared, "I think not being able to eat for a few days leading up to the Applebee's visit and having a strong emotional connection, no matter how silly it may seem, to the bourbon burger, just made me break down." She added, "But what I appreciate is that when I mention it's my favorite too, you can see that I may have lost it for a moment, but I quickly found my joy again."

Liz had a meltdown after Q didn't choose her for the reward. She shouted at him, expressing how upset she was about his decision.

In the episode, she yelled, "I see you eat every day. Q, you almost messed up my entire game. You overshadowed all my hard work, and I didn't say anything about it!"

Q mentioned that Liz had attempted to vote him out during the previous tribal council, which influenced his decision to choose Maria Shrime Gonzalez, Kenzie Petty, and Tiffany Nicole Ervin. After looking back on the situation, Liz expressed her gratitude towards everyone for being understanding during her "wild moment." Upon leaving the game, Liz learned the importance of giving herself grace.

Reflecting on her experience, Liz realized the need to give herself grace. She admitted to being afraid to speak up when feeling uncomfortable, fearing that others wouldn't like her. Despite these concerns, Liz recognized that people were forgiving and understanding when she expressed her true feelings on the show. She learned that it is okay to be authentic and that people will still show her grace.

Liz realized that the experience helped her strengthen her friendships with the cast members like Kenzie, Ben Katzman, and Venus Vafa.

Even though Liz didn't win the title of Sole Survivor, she gained a new circle of friends. After coming back to the United States, she shared that she had some stomach problems. However, once she could eat American food again, she didn't waste any time in heading to Applebee's for a long-awaited hamburger.

Survivor is available to stream on Paramount+.
