Surprising Surge in Xenoblade Chronicles Studio Profits Amazes Industry Experts

Monolith Soft, the Nintendo subsidiary responsible for the Xenoblade Chronicles series, achieves unprecedented profits, setting new records in the gaming industry

Monolith Soft, the game development studio known for the Xenoblade Chronicles series, has announced that it has achieved record-breaking profits. The financial report for the fiscal year highlighted the studio's success. It should be noted that Monolith Soft is a subsidiary of Nintendo and should not be confused with Monolith Productions, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Monolith Soft was acquired by Nintendo in 2006 and initially released the Wii-exclusive title Disaster: Day of Crisis, followed by the critically acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles and its successful sequels.

Over time, Monolith Soft has become one of Nintendo's key studios, providing support for many of the Nintendo Switch's top games. Their contributions include assisting in the development of blockbuster titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In 2022, the studio remained busy, providing support for the highly anticipated release of Splatoon 3, as well as developing the third installment of the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy. Given the success of both games on the Switch platform, it is not surprising that Monolith Soft's profits have surged.

According to a report from Japanese business outlet GameBiz.jp, Monolith Soft's fiscal year for 2022-2023, ending in March 2023, yielded significant profits. The data reveals that the company made approximately 800 million yen (around 5.63 million USD), marking a remarkable 97.8% increase compared to the previous year's earnings of 404 million yen (2.84 million USD). This doubling of profits can be attributed to the successful launches of both Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 within the same year. It is important to note that the previous fiscal year, 2021-2022, did not see any game releases or titles supported by the studio. Despite this, Monolith Soft still achieved a commendable profit during that time. This substantial leap in profitability for 2022 showcases the promising outlook for Monolith Soft in 2023, especially considering the current Nintendo Switch release schedule.

Monolith Soft made significant contributions to Nintendo's lineup in 2023. They developed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one of the year's biggest hits. Additionally, their DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 3, titled Future Redeemed, received widespread praise for its satisfying conclusion to the series. In September, Monolith Soft will release a remastered version of their early game Baten Kaitos 1 & 2. Fans have been expressing their congratulations to the company online for reaching this monumental milestone.
