WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from the latest episode of Superman & Lois, season 3, episode 13, titled "What Kills You Only Makes You Stronger." Fans of the show are buzzing online about the long-awaited introduction of one of Superman's most notorious villains. Despite The CW concluding its DC TV franchise, Superman & Lois will return for a fourth season. Prior to going on hiatus, the season 3 finale of Superman & Lois ties up loose ends and presents Clark Kent with his most formidable challenge yet, courtesy of Lex Luthor. In a surprising twist, a former villain's storyline comes full circle as he transforms into the show's version of Doomsday. The epic showdown between the Man of Steel and this iconic DC adversary has elicited enthusiastic reactions on social media. Take a look at a few examples below:
How Superman & Lois' Doomsday Differs From Past Versions
In Superman & Lois season 3, a storyline featuring Doomsday follows a similar path to Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Rather than directly adapting the comic book version, the show's interpretation of Doomsday is an evolved form of Bizarro, Superman's double from an alternate world. As with the film, Lex Luthor plays a significant role in the creation of Doomsday.
Upon discovering Bizarro's existence, Lex subjects this alternative Superman to cruel experiments and torture, resulting in his transformation into Doomsday. This parallels the approach taken in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Lex combines his blood with the body of General Zod, ultimately creating the dangerous creature. With the unresolved battle at the conclusion of the Superman & Lois season 3 finale, the confrontation will carry on in the season 4 premiere.
If Superman & Lois season 4 turns out to be the series finale for the DC TV drama, it wouldn't be surprising if the show chooses to incorporate The Death and Return of Superman as one of its concluding story arcs. With the significant reduction in budget for the upcoming season, it would be logical to feature the demise of the Man of Steel in the premiere of Superman & Lois season 4, followed by his eventual resurrection throughout the course of the season. However, only time will reveal what lies ahead for Superman & Lois season 4, expected to air in 2024.
