Supergirl: Finding Its Wordsmith for Woman Of Tomorrow Film

Nogueira's involvement with the Supergirl project began in 2022 when Warner Bros. initially hired her to write a Supergirl movie connected to The Flash. However, the management changes at the DC arm under Gunn and Safran led to a reorganization, which left the status of Nogueira's original project uncertain. As a result, the Supergirl film has now been incorporated into a new lineup that deviates from the earlier vision for DC Films under former studio president Walter Hamada.

The plot draws inspiration from a comic book mini-series written by Tom King and published in 2021 and 2022. The goal of the series was to redefine Supergirl, moving her beyond her role as simply a female version of Superman. In a Twitter video earlier this year, Gunn expressed that Supergirl is a more jaded character who has witnessed the tragic deaths of those around her. Meanwhile, Superman's story involves being sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, whereas in this version, Supergirl is raised on a piece of Krypton.

However, The Hollywood Reporter mentions that Gunn and Safran were impressed by Nogueira's previous work on the Supergirl project and have offered her a DC writing deal.
