Nessie, the beloved mascot of Apex Legends, is receiving a major upgrade for the Final Fantasy VII crossover, as she is set to become a summonable companion. The highly anticipated Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth event, announced at 2023’s Game Awards, will feature new Final Fantasy-themed cosmetics to mark the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
In addition, the game introduces a new Takeover mode, giving players the opportunity to use Cloud Strife's iconic Buster Sword in what is guaranteed to be an exciting and intense melee battle. What's more, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Takeover is shaking things up by implementing special hop-ups and allowing players to engage in battle with Apex's beloved character.
Apex Legends gets Nessie Summon Materia in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Takeover
For the new Takeover mode, hop-ups are being replaced with Materia, the magic orbs that enable spell casting and abilities in Final Fantasy VII.
New hop-ups in the FFVII event include: Materia that allows you to damage enemies to heal yourself🟢, reload empty weapons to damage and slow nearby enemies🟣, random criticals that provide extra damage🟡, and the ability to damage enemies to see their remaining health. You can also summon a Nessie to attack.
On January 4, 2024, the Apex Legends News Twitter account revealed that the Red Materia, known as Summon Materia to Final Fantasy VII fans, can be used to summon Nessie to attack enemies at the Apex Legend event site.
The event trailer features Nessie being called into action, zooming across the battlefield to ram into targets. Ever since her debut, Nessie has been a beloved mascot for Apex Legends, making appearances in official merchandise, holosprays, and skins. She even took center stage in a legendary Kings Canyon easter egg, allowing players to discover a massive Nessie.
The Nessie summon can only be used in the limited-time Final Fantasy VII Takeover mode, which is part of the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover event taking place from January 9 to 30, 2024. Stay tuned to Dexerto for all the latest updates on Apex Legends and Final Fantasy VII.
Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan of Apex Legends, I am thrilled about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover event. The introduction of Nessie as a summonable companion is an exciting and unexpected twist that adds a touch of magic and nostalgia to the game. I can't wait to experience the epic battles and intense melee combat with Cloud Strife's Buster Sword. The new Materia hop-ups also bring a fresh layer of strategy and excitement to the gameplay.
However, I do have some concerns about the limited-time nature of the event. I understand that it's meant to create a sense of urgency and exclusivity, but I wish there was a way to unlock Nessie and the Materia hop-ups permanently. As a dedicated fan of Apex Legends, I would love to have the opportunity to continue using these features even after the event ends. Overall, I am incredibly excited about the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover event and can't wait to dive into the action on January 9th!
