When Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches in early 2024, it will mark almost a decade since Rocksteady's last major PC and console game, Batman: Arkham Knight, was released. The final chapter in Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy still holds up well, and expectations are high for the studio to deliver a new action-packed experience set in the glittering skyscrapers of Metropolis, rather than the mean streets of Gotham.
The city of tomorrow is facing an alien invasion problem, with millions of citizens being transformed into footsoldiers and the Justice League switching sides. Dealing with rogue superheroes requires some super villains to take care of the problem. Unfortunately, all we've got is Task Force X, a group of incarcerated ne'er-do-wells with a grudge against the Justice League and an attitude problem that can only be rectified with the threat of the world's worst headache.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date and platforms
To conquer Brainiac's fortress, we'll need a bigger weapon. Initially revealed in 2020, Suicide Squad has experienced several delays during its development process. The game is now set to be released on February 2, 2024. Originally planned for a 2022 release, Rocksteady explained that the latest delay was necessary to ensure that Suicide Squad is released in the best possible state. Once it's available, you can purchase Suicide Squad on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. However, it will not be available on the previous generation Xbox One or PS4 platforms, but when you see it in action, you'll understand why.
Suicide Squad: The story so far
Join forces with Task Force X. Set in Metropolis, Suicide Squad thrusts the band of outcasts into an alien invasion that has erupted in the iconic city that Superman calls home. Brainiac has invaded, abducted the citizens, and transformed Metropolis into a battle zone with the help of the mind-controlled Justice League. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash have all succumbed to the influence of the alien super-genius, and the streets are filled with horrifically converted Metropolitans obeying his commands.
The black ops government group Argus is forced to take action to restore order, infiltrating the city while Commander Amanda Waller recruits Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark to form Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad. They must choose between aiding Waller to reduce their prison sentence and confronting the Justice League. In order to survive, the group must learn to cooperate and set aside their differences.
The game also features familiar faces from DC Comics, such as the Penguin and Gizmo, who act as weaponsmiths and vendors for the Suicide Squad. Set five years after Batman: Arkham Knight, the game includes elements from that story as well.
Suicide Squad gameplay
It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to the legendary voice actor, Kevin Conroy, in his final portrayal of Batman, following his passing in 2022.
Suicide Squad gameplay
Deadshot can gain the upper hand in combat from the air. Rocksteady revolutionized the action genre with Batman: Arkham Asylum, and with Suicide Squad, the studio is redefining run-and-gun gameplay. Each member of Task Force X brings unique strengths to enhance the core gameplay, utilizing iconic DC tools and gadgets to traverse Metropolis at incredible speeds. Deadshot represents a more traditional action-genre character, excelling in assault and sniper rifles while utilizing his jetpack to dominate the skies.
Harley Quinn will be familiar to Arkham fans as she swings across rooftops with her stolen Bat Drone and quickly climbs vertical structures with her pilfered Bat Grapnel. King Shark is a pure brute force, using leap attacks to close the distance and using his demigod powers to crash down on enemies and turn them into chum. Captain Boomerang utilizes a Speed Force gauntlet to move at Flash-like speeds and seemingly teleport to locations where he throws his signature weapon.
Suicide Squad features a melee system that can open up enemies to devastating juggle attacks, breaking their shields and causing them to drop energy cores that you can use to restore your defenses. Overall, the game builds on the momentum of the Batman Arkham games and gives you the tools to dig into those movesets as you level up each character.
Suicide Squad Beta
Experience the power of the Suicide Squad gear system, allowing you to enhance their strength with a range of common, rare, and legendary weapons. These weapons, each with unique perks, are perfect for those who enjoy the satisfaction of seeing damage numbers pop up. Additionally, each character offers three distinct skill trees for you to customize according to your playstyle.
Suicide Squad Beta
Now you see him, now you don't. Rocksteady is currently stress-testing the game with a closed alpha from November 30 to December 5. While there are no NDA-breaking gameplay leaks, an open beta before the game's launch wouldn't be unexpected. This would not only generate interest in the supervillain playground but also provide Rocksteady with crucial server testing.
Suicide Squad co-op
King Shark is a formidable force with a wide range of destructive abilities. Players have the freedom to switch between characters at any time outside of combat, with AI taking control of the other three members. For those who prefer to team up with fellow humans, the game offers online matchmaking for four-player co-op chaos. Players can mix and match their squad however they choose, creating unique combinations for maximum mayhem. Whether unleashing a team of Harley Quinns or Deadshots, or a group of Boomerangs causing havoc, the possibilities are endless.
The single-player campaign can be tackled in either single-player or multiplayer mode, giving players the flexibility to choose their preferred play style. Suicide Squad also features full cross-platform and cross-progression play as part of its online component.
Suicide Squad battle pass
Superman bears a resemblance to John Cena. Similar to other live-service games, Suicide Squad will introduce its own battle pass for players to progress through. Rocksteady has clarified that the battle pass will not offer any gameplay advantages, but will instead provide new outfits, emotes, and other items to customize playable characters. Every new season of Suicide Squad will come with a new battle pass, with a free tier available to all players and premium tiers requiring an optional in-game purchase.
The character customization showcased so far is a clear demonstration of Rocksteady's deep knowledge of comic books, with classic costumes for the squad featured prominently in several trailers.
Suicide Squad post-launch plans
Get Ready for More!
Rocksteady is keeping the details under wraps about what players can expect after completing the main campaign of Suicide Squad. However, they have confirmed that there will be regular free post-launch seasonal updates. These updates will feature new story content, playable characters, missions, gear, weapons, cosmetic items, in-game events, and more.
