Initially announced as the leads in January 2023, the duo swiftly traveled to Australia to begin shooting the movie by April of the same year. When pictures of them enjoying each other's company in swimwear during a scene surfaced online, it caused a frenzy of speculation about a potential romantic involvement.
The situation escalated when Powell's girlfriend at the time, Gigi Paris, unfollowed him on Instagram following the publication of the photos. In late April 2023, multiple sources confirmed that Powell and Paris had ended their three-year relationship.
