Good news, America! Subway has brought back their footlong cookie.
After being gone for four months, Subway announced on Wednesday that the oversized chocolate chip cookie is making a "triumphant return". It was initially removed from many stores less than two weeks after its January launch due to overwhelming demand.
Subway introduced a giant cookie as part of their new Sidekick lineup, which is a key component of their turnaround strategy. Along with the cookie, the lineup also includes a Cinnabon churro and a soft pretzel from Auntie Anne’s, both of which have been available for sale in recent months. Subway reported selling over 5 million cookies since their launch.
In addition to the new lineup, Subway has made other changes to their menu to compete with rivals. They have added customization options, encouraged customers to order through their app, expanded their international presence, and most recently started offering freshly sliced meats instead of pre-sliced cold cuts.
Subway's senior vice president of culinary and innovation, Paul Fabre, shared in a press release that the Footlong Cookie has been a hit with millions of Americans since its debut in January. He mentioned that the demand for the cookie has been so high in recent months.
Fabre also mentioned that Subway has been working hard to bring in more supply to meet the high demand at their restaurants.
The cookie is now back and available for order on various platforms such as Subway's website, app, DoorDash, and Uber Eats. You can also order them in person.
Subway is in need of a boost as they have been closing down locations, with over 400 restaurants shutting down in the US last year. They now have the smallest number of US restaurants (20,133) since 2005.

The return of Subway's Footlong Cookie is a welcome news for cookie lovers. After being removed due to overwhelming demand, the oversized treat is making a "triumphant return." This is a positive sign for Subway, which has been facing challenges in recent years. The new Sidekick lineup, which includes the cookie, churro, and pretzel, has been a key component of the company's turnaround strategy.
Subway's recent changes, including customization options, app ordering, and freshly sliced meats, indicate a willingness to adapt to changing consumer preferences. However, the company still faces competition from rivals. The closure of over 400 US restaurants last year highlights the need for Subway to continue innovating and meeting customer expectations. The return of the Footlong Cookie is a step in the right direction, but it remains to be seen if it will be enough to boost Subway's fortunes in the long term.
