Stunning Volley by Donny van de Beek Secures Victory for Man Utd in Thrilling Match

In a pre-season friendly at Murrayfield, Donny van de Beek made a triumphant return to Manchester United after his absence since January. Despite his knee injury that kept him out for the second half of the previous season, he managed to secure a stunning volleyed winner. Guided by a cross from young talent Dan Gore, van de Beek swiftly directed the ball into the net soon after coming on at half-time. This victory adds to United's success following their 2-0 win over Leeds in Norway last week.

Erik ten Hag included Mason Mount, a £60m-signing, in his starting line-up once again after his debut against Leeds. However, the former Chelsea midfielder was unable to convert an early Jadon Sancho cut-back into a goal. This opportunity presented itself after Antony and Amad Diallo were denied by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes. Despite the energetic start, the pace slowed down, prompting Ten Hag to make 10 changes at half-time.

In addition to Van de Beek, defender Jonny Evans also made his return to the team. This was his first appearance for Manchester United since 2015, after signing a short-term contract earlier in the week. Lyon had little success in troubling the 35-year-old, with their only noteworthy opportunity occurring in the first half when Jeffinho's shot hit the side-netting.

Gore's assist for Van de Beek's winning goal caught everyone's attention, while Isak Hansen-Aaroen, another young player, almost scored a second goal with a strong shot that was saved by Lyon's substitute goalkeeper Remy Riou. However, Van de Beek's strike was ultimately enough to secure the victory.
