Steve-O Bears his Soul in a Candid Revelation on the Jackass Forever Set

Steve-O opens up about his heartfelt disappointments in the upcoming film Jackass Forever Delve into the emotional journey of this iconic franchise and the struggles faced by its cast

Steve-O discusses facing a disappointing reality check during the production of Jackass Forever. The actor, who is now 49 years old, has been a part of Jackass since his mid-20s when the TV show first aired. Over the years, he has participated in various stunts related to Jackass, and most recently reunited with his crew for Jackass Forever.

In a candid interview with NME, Steve-O opens up about his mixed feelings during the filming of Jackass Forever. He admits that the experience was somewhat disheartening due to the visible effects of aging on everyone involved. Particularly, Steve-O expresses concern for his co-star Johnny Knoxville's well-being, even going as far as "begging" Knoxville to refrain from performing stunts that could potentially cause head injuries and brain trauma. Below, you can find Steve-O's full statement on the matter.

The Long Legacy of Jackass

The most recent Jackass film left me feeling disheartened, my friend. [Particularly the scene where Knoxville is flung by the bull and suffers brain damage]. Witnessing Knoxville endure head injuries is no longer an enjoyable experience. On that day, I composed a heartfelt message to the entire cast, expressing gratitude to Knoxville for his sacrifices for the team, while also imploring him to prioritize his well-being and cease subjecting himself to brain trauma. It remains one of my most solemn and sincere communications.

Jackass has been a prominent presence in the entertainment industry since its debut on MTV in 2000. Over the years, it has taken on various forms such as TV episodes, videos, and movies. While some members of the Jackass cast have come and gone, a core group consisting of Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, and Ehren McGhehey has remained constant. Additionally, Knoxville also ventured out on his own in 2013 with Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa prior to the release of Jackass Forever.

Jackass Forever pays tribute to this legacy by reuniting the crew. After a hiatus of 11 years (with Bad Grandpa featuring mainly Knoxville and some Jackass cast members making appearances in Jackass 3.5), the film brings back the Jackass crew. Despite their noticeable aging, the group continues to perform daring stunts, such as bull riding, a reptilian "quiet game," and Knoxville's return as a grandfather wearing aging makeup.

According to Steve-O's statement, it is evident that the Jackass stunts, despite the title, have their limits. While being in front of the camera may seem like a controlled environment, many members of the Jackass cast have suffered injuries over the years, including Knoxville who has experienced several severe concussions. Steve-O and the rest of the team may acknowledge Knoxville's sacrifices, but the legend of invincibility cannot extend indefinitely beyond Jackass Forever.
