Stephen Colbert is taking a sick leave this week from hosting "The Late Show." On Monday, Colbert announced via Threads that he will be cancelling this week's upcoming episodes as he undergoes surgery and recovers.
I regret to inform you that I need to cancel our shows for the upcoming week. You might be wondering, "Are you suffering from a turkey overdose, Steve? Did the gravy boat capsize?" In reality, I am currently recuperating from surgery to address a ruptured appendix," he stated. Colbert expressed his appreciation for the care provided by his doctors and thanked his wife Evie McGee-Colbert and their children for their patience and support.
"At the conclusion of his statement, he made a joking remark about my pancreas taking over the handling of all emails to my appendix in the future. Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer, and Barbara Streisand are scheduled to be guests on the "Late Show" when it resumes after Thanksgiving, with Grammy-winner Jon Batiste set to appear as the musical guest on Wednesday."
Colbert had to cancel a whole week of shows last month due to testing positive for Covid-19, as per doctors' orders, according to a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter). The "Late Show" is broadcast on CBS, Monday through Friday at 11:35 p.m. EST, and is also available for streaming on Paramount+.
