Doctor Who Has Ventured Into The World of Animation
: The featured image, shared on their personal Twitter account, showcases the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby adorned in a '60s aesthetic. However, this imaginative reimagination gives them a delightful twist by infusing them with a mid-century animation style reminiscent of the era's vibrant artworks. Accompanied by JoBeArt's unique and stylized interpretations, both the Doctor and Ruby are placed against a backdrop of the Doctor's renowned TARDIS, crafted in a stylish combination of blues and whites.Although Doctor Who is primarily known as a live-action series that has spanned 60 years, there have been instances where the franchise has delved into animation. In what became known as the "Wilderness Years" following the cancellation of the classic era in 1989, a proposed Nelvana animated series in 1990 never materialized. However, during this period, there were three webcasts that combined animation and live-action elements, highlighting the adventures of the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker), Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy), and Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann). These webcasts were made available on the BBC's website. Additionally, a special animated adventure titled "Scream of the Shalka" was created to coincide with the show's 40th anniversary. This unique installment featured an alternative Ninth Doctor portrayed by Richard E Grant and was released online.
Despite the revival of Doctor Who in its live-action television format in 2005, the franchise continued to explore animation. David Tennant's Tenth Doctor had two animated adventures, namely "The Infinite Quest" in 2007 and "Dreamland" in 2009. The iconic foe, the Daleks, also had its own online animated short series called "Daleks!" released as part of the Time Lord Victorious multimedia event in 2022. Additionally, animation has been used to recreate lost episodes of the classic show, preserving storylines that would have otherwise been lost forever.
As Gatwa's time in the TARDIS approaches its end, viewers are eager to witness as much as possible of his incarnation as the Doctor. Gatwa's Doctor has already made an impression with his remarkable collection of costumes, which have been officially revealed and glimpsed in set photos and videos throughout the production of Doctor Who season 14. The Fifteenth Doctor's '60s suit, particularly, stands out among the wardrobe, serving as an elegant homage to the upcoming Doctor and his forthcoming adventures.
