Steam recently experienced some of its highest levels of concurrent users and in-game players, with over 33,675,000 users online on January 7. According to Steam DB, this sets a new record for the popular PC gaming platform. On January 6, Steam also achieved a new record for the number of in-game players, surpassing 10,837,000 players. This is a significant increase from when Steam first broke 10,000,000 in-game players back in January 2023.
The most played games on January 6-7 were the usual suspects, including Valve's popular games like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. Team Fortress 2 also made the top 10 with almost 160,000 players. Other popular games included PUBG: Battlegrounds, Rust, Baldur's Gate 3, and Lethal Company, showing impressive staying power and player engagement.
2023 was a strong year for Steam, and it looks like 2024 will be even bigger. With over 14,535 games released on the platform in 2023, Steam saw a significant increase from the previous year and more than double the number of games released in 2018. In comparison, the second-place platform, the Nintendo Switch, only received 2,360 games in 2023.
