Highlights
2023 has been an exceptional year for gaming, with a constant stream of game of the year contenders releasing.
The release of Starfield has had a profound influence on the gaming industry and will undoubtedly remain a prominent talking point for the foreseeable future. This expansive game boasts a captivating main storyline that spans approximately 20 hours, along with an abundance of supplementary content, ensuring players can stay engrossed in its world for an extended period of time. Even when delving into new gaming experiences, Starfield is likely to linger in players' thoughts, as fully exploring its vastness may require a considerable amount of time and dedication.
2023 has been an exceptional year for the gaming industry. In a typical year, there are usually 3-4 games that contend for game of the year. However, in 2023, there have been contenders every few weeks. From the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy and Dead Space Remake at the beginning of the year, to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom a few months later, and to the surprise releases of Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy 16 all within a few days of each other, 2023 has truly been a remarkable year for gaming. It feels like this is just the beginning, with the highly anticipated Starfield paving the way for an even busier release period.
Following a much-needed break last month, Starfield has made an explosive entrance into the Fall release season. Although its critical reception has been somewhat mixed, there is no denying the significant impact that Starfield has had on the industry. Gamers from around the world have engaged in endless discussions about its release. However, the time for Starfield to remain in the spotlight is limited, and its influence will likely endure longer than expected.
Starfield's Shadow Is Going To Loom Over The Rest of the Year's Releases
Starfield, much to the anticipation of fans, is incredibly massive. Even by completing the main story at maximum speed, players can expect to spend around 20 hours, barely scratching the surface of what Starfield has to offer. Similar to other Bethesda RPGs upon release, fans currently have no clue about the immense content packed into Starfield; it is estimated that players will need well over 100 hours, and potentially much more, to experience everything the game has to offer. Aside from the main missions, players can also delve into the extensive ship-builder system, engage in faction quests, assist companions, and participate in random activities.
For the majority of Starfield players, it will likely be a considerable amount of time before they feel like they have seen even half of what the game has to offer. However, Bethesda has clearly expressed that they want fans to take their time with Starfield. The development of the game has spanned almost a decade, and Bethesda wants players to thoroughly enjoy and savor that work. Moreover, Starfield itself encourages players to progress at their own pace, with mission structures designed for hour-long play sessions. Much like Skyrim and Fallout before it, Starfield is meant to be played gradually over an extended period, which is certainly advantageous when considering the other releases scheduled for the remainder of the year.
Starfield may be one of the most highly anticipated releases this Fall, but there are still several other major titles set to debut in September, such as Lies of P, Mortal Kombat 1, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and EA Sports FC 24. The schedule for October is even more jam-packed, with highly acclaimed games like Assassin's Creed Mirage, Forza Motorsport, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Alan Wake 2, among others, all hitting store shelves. This Fall has an overwhelming number of game releases, and Starfield's timing couldn't have been better.
With the full release of Starfield, fans now have a week or two to dedicate significant hours to the game before other titles are released. This is a perfect opportunity for players to become fully immersed in Bethesda's classic formula. Even if players find themselves enjoying new titles like Spider-Man 2 or Mario Bros. Wonder, Starfield is likely to remain in the back of their minds, tempting them to continue playing for just one more hour or complete one more quest, just as Skyrim did over a decade ago.
Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
