How to Join the UC VanguardIs the UC Vanguard Worth It?
In the Settled Systems of Starfield, players will encounter various factions as they dive deeper into the game's storyline. One prominent faction, the United Colonies Vanguard, can be found at their headquarters in the MAST District of New Atlantis. Commander John Tuala, leading the Vanguard, actively encourages players to join their ranks, as the United Colonies volunteer fleet is constantly seeking fresh recruits. This guide outlines the steps players can take to become part of the Vanguard in Starfield, along with the rewards and advantages they can expect to gain by doing so.
How to Join the UC Vanguard
Players have the opportunity to communicate with Commander John Tuala at any given moment in order to attempt to join the United Colonies Vanguard. They will be able to locate him in the MAST Building, situated directly above the NAT Station in the MAST District.
Upon expressing their desire to be a part of the Vanguard, players will initiate the Supra Et Ultra mission and will have the ability to progress through the necessary trials required for membership. However, prior to this, gamers will need to enter the elevator in the MAST Building and make their way to the Orientation Hall. In this location, they must interact with one of the registration terminals. It is here that they can peruse the Enlistment Agreement and must express their agreement in order to actively participate in the Vanguard.
To become fully pledged members, gamers must earn a satisfactory grade on a simulated combat flight test, and they must complete a probationary mission.
Simulated Combat Flight
To become UC Vanguard members, gamers must successfully complete the simulated combat flight trial as their initial test. By entering the Examination Chamber, players can begin their trial in the Vanguard Pilot Simulator. However, before starting the test, they have the opportunity to leisurely explore the Orientation Hall, which serves as an intriguing museum showcasing significant historic events in the Settled Systems.
During the simulated combat trial, players will pilot a Class B Deimos Hoplithe ship. The objective is to defeat a minimum of three tiers of simulated opponents in order to pass the test.
While only six enemy tiers need to be eliminated to pass, players have the option to face additional levels. In total, players have the opportunity to conquer six tiers of enemies. Achieving a higher score results in a reduced time to obtain UC citizenship and an increased bonus on the application.
Once players have successfully completed the trial, they are required to go back to the lobby and engage in a conversation with Tuala. Subsequently, they must take an oath in the presence of the MAST Building and will then be assigned their probationary task.
UC Vanguard Probationary Mission (Grunt Work Walkthrough)
The probationary mission, known as Grunt Work, of the UC Vanguard involves the important task of delivering essential materials to the settlers stationed on Tau Ceti II. To commence this mission, gamers are required to proceed to the Spaceport located in New Atlantis. Here, they can collect the necessary materials and receive a welcome goodie bag from Crew Chief Herath. Once equipped, they can proceed towards the Tau Gurmet Production Center situated on Tau Ceti II, within the expansive Tau Ceti system.
The probationary mission will prove to be more challenging than anticipated. Upon arrival at the Tau Gourmet Production Center, players will discover only Hadrian Sanon remaining alive. She will inform them about the Terrormorph presence at the location, revealing its lethal attack that resulted in the demise of all the settlers.
There is something unusual about this particular Terrormorph. Typically, these creatures only appear on colonized planets several decades after Settled Systems settlers have arrived. However, Tau Ceti II is relatively young, with settlers being present for only 20 years. Sanon wants a tissue sample to gather more information about the creature, which means the player will need to find a way to eliminate it.
Sanon instructs the players to head to the Security Outpost to restore the security system and activate the turrets. They need to reset the connection, enable the tracking system at the Tau Gourmet: Livestock Tracking terminal, and adjust the Tracker Frequency Tuner to 183.5.
Following that, players will be required to eliminate the Terrormorph. They have the choice to either enhance the facility's turrets by strategically activating the breakers on each structure and enticing the extraterrestrial towards them, or they can opt for a more direct approach by engaging in a fierce firefight and eliminating it head-on.

After neutralizing the danger and returning the specimen to Sanon, players have the opportunity to report back to Commander Tuala on Jemison. This crucial step marks the conclusion of their probationary assignment, signifying their official induction into the esteemed ranks of the UC Vanguard. Devotees will then receive their inaugural important directive, entailing a captivating journey to Mars to embark on the enthralling Delivering Devils quest, thereby propelling the narrative forward. In Starfield, players aren't limited to a single faction; they can join the Freestar Rangers and be part of the United Colonies Vanguard simultaneously.
By joining the Vanguard, gamers will have the opportunity to attain UC citizenship.
