Missed Beyond Measure is a poignant main mission in Starfield where the Constellation crew bids a heartfelt farewell to a fallen comrade in the mission 'High Price to Pay'. This mission provides a much-needed respite from the battles, as the Starfield team unitedly mourns the loss of their beloved companion and holds hope for a celestial reunion in the afterlife.
For some players, this Starfield mission can be profoundly emotional. The characters collectively share in their grief for the crew member who was so dear to their hearts. Saying goodbye can be difficult, especially if players had forged a strong bond with the departed character, mirroring the pain experienced in real life. Missed Beyond Measure serves as a touching memorial service for a character whose untimely demise took many by surprise.
Talk To Noel
After the completion of the High Price to Pay mission, players are given the opportunity to engage in a heartfelt conversation with Noel at the Lodge. During this interaction, Noel expresses her desire to organize a solemn funeral for the departed individual, with the intention of uniting all members of the Constellation in mourning the loss of their beloved friend. Players have the option to wholeheartedly agree to participate in this meaningful memorial service, allowing Noel ample time to make necessary arrangements. As a result, the once dilapidated state of the Lodge, caused by the intense confrontation with the Hunter, will undergo necessary repairs, symbolizing the beginning of the characters' emotional healing process.
Wait 4 UT Days
In order to commence the funeral, players are required to wait for four days according to Universal Time. During this period, players can utilize the opportunity to explore the vast expanse of the galaxy as a mark of respect for the departed. Alternatively, players may opt to rest in the comfort of their personal quarters in the Lodge. They will receive a prompt to wait the designated duration before the commencement of the memorial service. It is strongly recommended to select this option to enable players to directly proceed to the funeral.
Attend The Memorial Service
While players have the option to skip the funeral by leaving the Lodge, it is advisable to participate and show proper respect for the deceased character. The mission carries immense emotional weight, and it wouldn't be unexpected for tears to be shed. Players will not be judged for choosing not to attend, but by attending, they will have the opportunity to listen to the mourning characters and witness their expressions of grief.
Moreover, players can approach the podium and deliver a few words themselves. Subsequently, other members of Constellation will take turns speaking about the departed, although their remarks will remain consistent for each deceased companion. It is important for players to recognize that not all companions who perish in the mission "High Price to Pay" are identical, as their bond levels may vary among individual players.
Talk To People
In attendance are Matteo, Cleo, Walter, Noel, Vladimir, Aja, Vasco, and the three surviving companions. Speaking with each character completes optional objectives and allows players to empathize with their grief. It is advisable to console and listen to them in order to understand their coping mechanisms, as each character processes grief differently, which is natural given the circumstances.
Players can engage in conversation and interact with the remaining companions. By effectively consoling them, players can strengthen their relationships, as indicated by the prompt "[character] loved that" in the top right corner of the screen. This mission is filled with intricate details and requires players to approach it respectfully, refraining from relying solely on their futuristic weapons. When speaking with Vasco, players will witness how a machine copes with the loss of human life; whereas conversing with Cleo offers a perspective of grief and confusion through the eyes of a child. If Sam had died in the player's playthrough, Cleo's grief may prove to be overwhelming for them.
Leave The Lodge
If players choose to, they can approach the portrait of the deceased character and offer a heartfelt moment of contemplation, as if hoping their words could transcend the barrier between life and death. While some characters stand alongside the portrait during the funeral, a few can be found in the upstairs bar. Vladimir and Sam, for instance, wait there, ready to pour a drink in memory of their departed friend. Players are welcome to join them and even reassure Sam that it's natural to feel sadness. There are numerous ways for the team to find solace and express their emotions while navigating the process of grieving.
After conversing with all individuals or when they decide it is time to depart, players have the freedom to exit the Lodge and conclude the mission. The choice of when to leave rests entirely in the hands of the players, ensuring their comfort and autonomy. Once they bid farewell to the Lodge, players can resume their solemn expedition across the vastness of space, forever mindful of the devastating loss of their comrade and departed friend, while the pursuit of the Starborn and the Artifacts persists in their memory. The sorrowful farewell served as a much-needed intermission, for there are still numerous significant missions yet to unfold in the realm of Starfield.
