The Ecliptic Mercenaries, a prominent enemy faction in Starfield, pose a major threat as they roam throughout the Settled Systems, infiltrating and seizing control of isolated installations. Known for their aggressive nature, they have a shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later approach.
Upon successfully clearing out a random Ecliptic base on any planet within Starfield, players may chance upon a message alluding to a location called Vulture's Roost. Unlike a formal mission, uncovering this information is treated as an activity. However, the potential rewards awaiting players make the endeavor highly worthwhile.
Where to Go to Reach Vulture's Roost
Located in the star system Jaffa, Vulture's Roost is a notable destination for players. This system, situated near Porrima, the homeland of Paradiso, holds a significant position on the star map. It is crucial for players to bear in mind that Jaffa is a level 35 system, as the adversaries they encounter at the base pose a formidable challenge for characters of the same level.
To fully experience all that Vulture's Roost offers, players are advised to explore the planet Jaffa IV. This planet not only bears the symbol of a thriving mining colony but possesses a distinct name as well. Interestingly, even without stumbling upon an Ecliptic message, players can still venture to Jaffa IV, where Vulture's Roost eagerly awaits their arrival.
Still, players should possess Security 3 skill, along with an ample amount of digipicks, before venturing into Vulture's Roost. Unlocking the treasure trove within the base requires the ability to pick Master locks, granting access to all the valuable loot.
The Entrance
Once players arrive at Vulture's Roost, their spaceship will touch down on a designated platform situated on the outskirts of the expansive compound. Without delay, the intense clash erupts right from the outset, as every corner of Vulture's Roost brims with enraged Ecliptic Mercenaries.
The initial section lacks interesting equipment. While some shipping containers and habs hold loot and crafting items, they are typical for a base in a level 35 system. It is advisable to thoroughly investigate the lower level before ascending the stairs to the upper level.
Additionally, players have the option to venture beyond the plateau and explore the planet. The region surrounding Vulture's Roost is equally developed compared to other areas in Starfield. However, the sides of the plateau are extremely steep, which might necessitate utilizing fast travel to return to their ship.
The Bar and Bedrooms
Players will encounter a sizable bar, which serves as the focal point of Vulture's Roost, after traversing several living quarters. On the right side of the bar's main entrance stands a two-story living space, with each door secured except for the bathroom door. While players have the option to pick the locks on each door, there exists a simpler alternative for gaining access.
On the lower level and to the left of the bar's main entrance, players will discover the entrance to the kitchen. Although the kitchen door is locked, it can be picked open. Towards the rear of the kitchen, there is a waist-high safe. By successfully unlocking the safe, players will acquire a key that grants access to all five rooms in the neighboring living space.
There are several rooms in Vulture's Roost that contain contraband. Some of the contraband items can be found sitting around, while others are locked up in contraband caches. Each cache in Vulture's Roost holds either nine or ten contraband items, providing players with plenty of opportunities to quickly build up their contraband inventory. Vulture's Roost houses a total of seven different types of contraband, including vials of Aurora.
To continue their journey from the bar, players need to head to the upper level. The hallway on this level passes by multiple locked offices, most of which hold additional contraband. Once players reach the end of the hallway, they will find themselves overlooking another landing pad.
The Central Landing Bay
Upon entering the landing pad area, players will face formidable Ecliptic Mercenaries. Surrounding the landing pad is an elevated path, offering access to various habs where players can discover valuable weaponry, suits, and illicit items.
Descending the stairs on the left side of the walkway leads to the landing pad. Although not particularly abundant in resources, players may collect crafting materials and salvage from fallen Ecliptic bodies. Notably, a Dagger ship should be present upon players' arrival, providing an opportunity to cap off their adventure in Vulture's Roost by seizing the vessel.
The Dagger, a class A ship, lacks a shielded cargo hold. However, players who have reached this point would have already looted everything else from Ecliptic, so why not complete the spree by stealing a ship?
Starfield is currently accessible on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
