Starfield: Mastering the Ultimate Field of View (FOV) on PC

Starfield: Mastering the Ultimate Field of View (FOV) on PC

Easily customize Starfield's FOV on PC with this effortless solution for optimal gameplay

Bethesda's games are known for their lack of built-in FOV sliders in their settings menus, and unfortunately, this remains true for the launch version of Starfield. Players are unable to adjust this setting within the game because the option simply does not exist.

Fortunately, certain members of the Starfield gaming community have discovered a workaround for this issue, allowing players to customize the distance between their in-game camera and the screen without any unnecessary complications. This method does not involve modifying any existing files, making it a safe option for those running the game on a computer.

How to Change FOV in Starfield

Starfield: Mastering the Ultimate Field of View (FOV) on PC

To change the FOV in Starfield, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the "My Documents" directory.

Go to the /My Games/Starfield directory

Right-click on empty space in the folder and create a new Text Document

Name the doc "StarfieldCustoms.ini" (without the quotation marks)

Inside, paste the following with proper syntax:[Camera] fFPWorldFOV=100 fTPWorldFOV=100

After loading their most recent save game, players will notice that the camera has been adjusted to be closer or farther away based on the values of fFPWorldFOV and fTPWorldFOV written in the configuration file. You are welcome to modify this setting to your preferred value.

If the file doesn't work, it is possible that StarfieldCustoms was saved as a plain text file. Please ensure that it is saved with the ".ini" file extension instead of ".txt". Users can confirm this by checking the file's type in their Explorer window. If the file is identified as StarfieldCustoms.ini saved as a Text Document, please proceed to open StarfieldCustoms.

Use the "Save As" function by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S

In the "Save As Type" drop-down box, click "All Files" instead of "Text Document"

Save the file as "StarfieldCustoms.ini" to make Windows recognize it as a configuration settings file. This enables the game to read and execute the commands written in it during launch. Additionally, ensure that there are no unnecessary spaces between each line of code.

At present, it is not possible to modify the field of view (FOV) settings on Xbox Series X/S consoles. Nevertheless, the robust modding capabilities of Starfield offer the potential for third-party users to develop a solution that allows console players to customize their camera settings. Additionally, Bethesda may consider incorporating this functionality in a future update of the game.

Starfield is currently accessible on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
