In Starfield, players have access to a wide range of consumables, including performance-enhancing drugs and chems. These items are just one of the many options available to enhance gameplay. However, obtaining a significant amount of these drugs can be challenging, especially if players rely heavily on their effects.
Similar to food and mods, players can craft chems in Starfield. However, the more potent options will only become available later in the game once players have reached a high enough level to learn the necessary recipes. To help those who want a consistent supply of drugs, here's a quick guide to chem crafting.
How to Craft Chems in Starfield
To begin, players must have access to a Pharmaceutical Lab, which is located in the Lodge's basement along with other crafting stations. Alternatively, players can obtain their own lab by creating and placing one in an outpost or by installing specific Hab modules on their ship.
By interacting with the Pharmaceutical Lab, players can access the crafting screen. This screen displays all available chems that players can create using the resources they have in their inventory or on their ship's cargo hold. The menu provides detailed information on the specific type and quantity of materials required to craft each item, as well as the effects of consuming the items.
At the beginning, players will be able to access basic chems and medicine. As they progress and complete sufficient research projects, they will gain the ability to create a wider range of pharmaceutical consumables at any laboratory.
Unlock additional crafting recipes by visiting a Research Station and accessing the Pharmacology tab. Here, players can discover projects such as Performance Enhancement and Medical Treatment, which provide access to items like Amps and Infused Bandages for healing.
To access higher-tier research projects, players must invest points into the Chemistry skill under the Science tree. Reaching maximum level in this skill unlocks all chem recipes in Starfield and triples the number of items created with each successful craft.
Crafting chems is an excellent method for being prepared in any circumstances. Although the buffs they offer are limited, they are frequently quite beneficial. For instance, chems like Pick-Me-Up substantially enhance the player's carrying capacity, while meds like Hippolyta greatly boost the likelihood of successfully persuading individuals during critical moments in specific quests. Additionally, surplus materials can be converted into chems and sold for a profitable gain.
Now, Starfield is currently accessible on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
