Starfield: Intel GPU Compatibility Problems Surface – What You Need to Know!

Starfield, the highly anticipated game, is facing performance challenges on certain Intel GPUs, leaving disappointed PC gamers to share their frustration on social media Reports suggest that the game is nearly unplayable on Intel's Arc graphics cards

Highlights

Early access players report that Starfield is unplayable on Intel Arc graphics cards, causing disappointment among users.

Both AMD and NVIDIA have released graphics driver updates to improve compatibility with Starfield, but Intel has not done so yet. Intel is aware of the issues regarding Starfield on Arc GPUs and has ensured that an updated graphics driver will be available when the game is fully released on September 6th.

Ahead of the highly anticipated release of Starfield, several early access players took to social media to express their frustration with the game's performance on Intel Arc graphics cards. According to their reports, the game is completely unplayable on these GPUs, with the game window failing to appear on any of Intel's Alchemist line of GPUs. Intel responded to these complaints, but unfortunately, their reply did not provide the desired solution to the issues before the game's official launch.

Those who had purchased Starfield's Premium Edition were granted early access starting on August 31. They found that Bethesda's new IP has a familiar gameplay and technical feel, reminiscent of Skyrim and Fallout 4. As the September 6 release date approached, both AMD and NVIDIA released graphics driver updates to ensure smooth compatibility with Starfield. Although some players found the initial hours of Starfield more challenging compared to Skyrim, Intel Arc users were unfortunately unable to even begin their Starfield experience.

Reports indicate that Intel Arc graphics cards, notably the A750, have encountered difficulties loading Starfield. Despite the presence of Starfield's window in the background and its consumption of substantial system resources as seen in the Windows Task Manager, efforts to bring it to the forefront have been fruitless. Consequently, numerous Intel users have taken to social media platforms to voice their grievances, which prompted a response from Intel on Twitter. While Intel acknowledges the Starfield-related issues on Arc GPUs, a solution for affected graphics cards is presently unavailable.

Intel has disclosed that an updated graphics driver for Arc GPUs is planned to coincide with the full release of Starfield. However, this has not assuaged users' disappointment with Intel for not providing a game-ready driver for Starfield simultaneously with both AMD and NVIDIA. Intel's struggles in GPU sales are further exacerbated by the problems associated with Starfield. As of current writing, the limited availability of Starfield reviews – restricted to media outlets and Steam curators – prevents an assessment of the extent to which disgruntled Intel users will convey their dissatisfaction.

Starfield, despite encountering difficulties with Intel Arc GPUs in its early access phase, continues to be one of the highly awaited games of 2023. The performance of Starfield on Intel Arc GPUs after the launch of the updated drivers remains to be determined.

The release date for Starfield is set for September 6 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
