Starfield has had a significant impact on Bethesda and the Xbox brand. Microsoft revealed during their fiscal year 2024 Q1 earnings call that Starfield generated the highest number of subscriptions for Xbox Game Pass in a single day, marking a milestone for the service.
The company's comprehensive financial results indicated growth in several important areas, including a 13% rise in Xbox content and services such as Game Pass. However, there was a slight decline of 7% in hardware sales. Nonetheless, overall revenue for the Xbox gaming brand increased by a notable 9% in the third quarter of the year.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella attributed the increase in subscribers to Xbox Game Pass to the launch of Starfield. He mentioned that on the day of its release, Microsoft achieved a new record for the highest number of Game Pass subscriptions added in a single day. Despite being available through the subscription service, Starfield emerged as the top-selling game in September, surpassing popular titles such as Mortal Kombat 1 and EA Sports FC 24.
This call signifies the final fiscal report prior to Activision Blizzard becoming a part of the portfolio. Microsoft concluded its $69 billion acquisition of the Call Of Duty publisher earlier this month, following a two-year legal and regulatory dispute.
