Star Trek: Prodigy fans have gone to great and unconventional lengths in their efforts to save the show. Despite Paramount Plus abruptly ending the program after one season, despite previously confirming a second season, loyal fans have rallied to keep it alive.

Star Trek is not only one of the largest and most influential franchises, but it has also played a significant role in the science fiction genre since its debut in 1966. The original series, now known as Star Trek: The Original Series, received critical acclaim and became a platform for politically charged science fiction. While initially targeting a niche fanbase, the franchise's appeal has expanded over the years, thanks in part to Paramount's revitalization efforts. Through the creation of new shows with different audience appeal and a new film series, Star Trek has attracted a much broader audience.

Shortly after the conclusion of Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery on Paramount Plus, the streaming service made the surprising decision to cancel the 3D-animated children's show Star Trek: Prodigy, despite previously confirming a second season. This decision has sparked a passionate response from fans, who believe that the show plays a crucial role in cultivating a new generation of viewers. In an effort to save the show, devoted fans organized a campaign and arranged for a banner displaying the hashtag "#SAVE STAR TREK PRODIGY" to be flown over the headquarters of various major streaming services, such as Amazon, Hulu, and Apple. The banner even circled over Netflix HQ, where it was captured in a photograph for Twitter.

Although Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is currently in post-production for upcoming episodes, Paramount Plus has unexpectedly removed it from its release schedule as part of cost-cutting measures, similar to Disney's cancellation of The Spiderwick Chronicles. However, CBS Studios and showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman have stood in solidarity with the fans and are committed to completing the second season and exploring options for its distribution, seemingly with the permission of Paramount. When shown images of the banner flying over Netflix HQ, the showrunners expressed their gratitude and admiration for the passionate fans, stating, "This is incredible. We owe these Trek fans a pint and our lifetime devotion. Blessed to have people like all of you in our stratosphere. #SaveStarTrekProdigy️️".

The debate surrounding whether Star Trek media like Prodigy should be made for kids is still ongoing. However, it is undeniable that the show has been well-received by a wide range of fans. As the guardians of the franchise, it might be in Paramount's best interest to listen to the fans and consider proceeding with a second season (and possibly more) of Star Trek: Prodigy. Currently, it seems that Paramount Plus is unable to host the show due to their new content strategy. Despite the optimistic efforts of some fans, others have expressed doubts about the timely release of the second season and the show's future. Only time will tell if Star Trek: Prodigy will face a similar fate to Netflix's Warrior Nun with cancellation and potential return.
