Spirit Airlines warns that its flight operations may face disruptions over the next few days due to the urgent inspection of a limited area on 25 of its aircraft. FlightAware, a flight tracking website, reports that the budget airline has already canceled 98 flights (equivalent to 11% of its Friday schedule) as of 2:45 p.m. EDT. Additionally, it has also canceled 81 flights (around 9% of its schedule) for Saturday.
Spirit Airlines stated that they are taking this action as a precautionary measure. They anticipate that the impact on their network will persist for several days while they conduct inspections and strive to resume normal operations. They sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and are actively working to assist the affected passengers.
Although Spirit Airlines has not provided specific details about the inspections that need to be conducted, FlightAware data indicates that the majority of the cancellations involve their Airbus A319 aircraft. Additionally, the airline operates A320s and A321s.
The flights from airports including Atlantic City, Hartsfield-Jackson, Nashville, Boston Logan, Baltimore/Washington, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston Bush, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Memphis, Orlando, Chicago OHare, Southwest Florida, and Tampa have been affected.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the inspections have been classified as necessary maintenance checks and the agency will ensure that the issue is resolved before the aircrafts are put back into service.
