Sophia Bush expressed her gratitude to her fans and followers for their support after she publicly announced that she is queer and confirmed her relationship with former USWNT player Ashlyn Harris.

In a recent Instagram post on April 26, the 41-year-old actress, known for her role in Chicago P.D., shared a behind-the-scenes video of her Glamour shoot with the caption "Ever-evolving + still weird."

Fans, friends, and celebrities chimed in on Bush's post. Hilarie Burton Morgan, her cohost on the "Drama Queens" podcast and former One Tree Hill costar, expressed her love multiple times. Harris, 38, commented, "You're perfect."

A separate social media user praised Bush, calling her a phenomenal woman and an incredible human being. They expressed admiration for her strength and positive impact on others.

Bush shared her thoughts on her relationship with Harris in a self-written cover story for Glamour published on Thursday, April 25. This was the first time she addressed the topic publicly and also clarified that she did not cheat on her ex-husband, Grant Hughes.

"I always felt like this place was where I belonged. I've always believed that my sexuality is diverse," Bush expressed. "Right now, I feel that 'queer' is the best term to describe it. Whenever I say it, I can't help but smile. And that feels really good."

She added, "I finally feel free. It's hard to put into words how significant that is. It's like I was carrying a heavy burden for so long. I didn't even realize how heavy it was until I finally let it go."

Bush and Hughes were married for just over a year before the actress filed for divorce in August 2023. By October of the same year, she was already romantically linked to Harris, as they found comfort in each other during their breakups.

Before Harris got together with Bush, she was married to U.S. soccer star Ali Krieger in 2019. Together, they have two children: a 3-year-old daughter named Sloane and a 20-month-old son named Ocean.

In her essay, Bush also addressed the "blatant lies" and "accusations of being a homewrecker" amid her and Harris' divorces, maintaining that the allegations made against her were untrue.

She expressed frustration at the rumors that she left her ex because she suddenly wanted to be with women, clarifying that her partners have always known her true feelings. She emphasized that the idea of leaving her marriage due to a nonexistent scandal was far from the truth. Instead, she highlighted the emotional turmoil and vulnerability she experienced during the difficult process of ending her marriage.

Bush shared that her journey of coming out was lengthy and reflective. She chose not to disclose it on social media in real-time. However, she mentioned that her parents are completely supportive of her and her partner.

When the news of her sexuality became public, Bush's mother received a call from a friend expressing disbelief. The friend emphasized that Bush couldn't be gay. In response, Bush's mother affirmed her daughter's sexuality with love and acceptance. She simply stated, "Oh honey, I think she’s pretty gay. And she’s happy."
