Sony Unveils Festive Season of Play Extravaganza

Sony has revealed that its PlayStation Plus Season of Play event is set to kick off on December 5 and will run until January 5. The event will offer bonuses and discounts on PlayStation products, as well as feature tournaments, a free weekend of online multiplayer, and the addition of Crunchyroll titles to Sony's streaming service.

Membership is not required for all Season of Play events, with both non-members and members having the opportunity to redeem free avatars for PS4 and PS5, celebrating some of PlayStation Plus's most popular titles. Additionally, all players can enjoy a 15% discount on PlayStation merchandise throughout the holiday season by using the code SEASONOFPLAY15.

Sony is currently hosting a competition to win a PS5 console and a 12-month subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, known as Premium/Deluxe. The competition, unlike other Season of Play activities, will not appear on the PS+ homepage until December 19. To participate, players must answer five questions about the PS+ gaming catalog. It is unclear if this will be a trivia-style competition or more of a survey.

Additionally, players without an active PS+ subscription will have the opportunity to enjoy free online multiplayer on the weekend of December 9-10. Normally, online multiplayer requires a PS+ subscription, but during this special weekend, all PlayStation owners will be able to take their games online.

Exclusive to PS+ members are the upcoming PlayStation Tournaments scheduled from December 12 to December 17. Titles for these tournaments include EA Sports FC 24, NBA 2K24, Madden NFL 24, and MLB the Show 23. Participants will have the chance to win a Premium/Deluxe membership, and will also be entered into a draw to win a digital edition PS5.

Additionally, PS+ subscribers who are part of the PlayStation Stars loyalty program can earn bonus points by downloading and playing the free PS Plus games for December, which include LEGO 2K Drive, Powerwash Simulator, or Sable.

Sony Pictures Core, Sony’s digital movie rentals and sales platform, is offering exclusive bonuses to PS+ members during the Season of Play. All PS+ members will have access to discounts on select titles, with new discounts available every Friday. In addition, Deluxe/Premium members will have the added benefit of being able to stream a curated selection of titles on demand as part of their membership, as well as gaining access to a range of titles from Crunchyroll, including episodes from Eighty Six, Iruma-kun, To Your Eternity, and more.

The event is set to begin on December 5th at 2 AM PST, with all the details going live on the PlayStation Plus website.
