Sofia Richie has revived a highly debatable fashion trend.
On Sunday, July 30, Richie, aged 24, showcased a contemporary take on the previously trendy chevron design through her Instagram post. Her outfit consisted of a zig-zag patterned blouse in vibrant pink, yellow, and green hues, paired with corresponding pants. Richie elegantly allowed the button-up blouse to slip off her shoulder, revealing a black tank top underneath.
To complement her ensemble, she adorned herself with ruby sunglasses, a small tan purse, a silver necklace, gold hoop earrings, and comfortable flip-flops. Completing her stylish appearance, Richie twisted her hair into a claw clip.
While her style is typically praised by fans, there were mixed opinions among her followers regarding Richie reintroducing the chevron aesthetic. One individual commented on the social media post, expressing their fear of chevron making a comeback and stating that it was the worst thing to happen to them. However, others were excited to see the return of the striped pattern. Another follower expressed their admiration, stating "I like it! Gorgeous girl," and many others inquired about where they could purchase a similar set.
Chevron stripes first gained popularity in the 1960s and '70s when fashion designer Pierre Cardin incorporated the design into his fashion collections alongside Missoni. They experienced a resurgence in 2011 when Target launched a Missoni for Target collection featuring head-to-toe zig-zag outfits. The trend then became widespread, appearing on leggings, skater skirts, dresses, and jackets. However, it fell out of style around 2016.
Richie recently announced her upcoming fashion collection, raising questions about whether the chevron pattern will be incorporated into the line.
Though she has not disclosed the collection's name or release date, Richie provided a sneak peek of the clothing line in a recent Vogue YouTube video. The clip shows Richie exploring different cashmere colors in a swatch book, expressing enthusiasm for the line. She revealed that the collection will consist of 80 items that reflect her personal style and make her feel comfortable.
She favors straight jeans, sophisticated blazers, comfortable knit dresses, and effortless tops from renowned brands such as Chanel and Proenza Schouler. One of her standout outfits was seen during her wedding celebrations with Elliot Grainge in Antibes, France. During a beach outing, she donned a stunning Chanel ensemble consisting of a black and white cover-up adorned with a striking bow at her waist. She paired it with a black bandeau bikini top and accessorized with a stylish square clutch, also created by the esteemed French fashion house.
