Committing to the role. Over the years, actors have filmed nude scenes and decided to wear body prosthetics instead of completely exposing themselves on screen.
Eric Dane, who portrays Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, previously discussed the challenges of filming emotionally raw scenes. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in June 2019, the Grey's Anatomy alum emphasized the importance of having a single support system on set. This person serves as a confidante, allowing actors to openly express their thoughts and emotions, and advocates for their well-being. By streamlining the process, a safe and comfortable environment is created, even when tackling uncomfortable and intense scenes like those in the pilot episode of Euphoria.
In the pilot episode, Cal meets up with Jules, who is underaged, after connecting on a dating app. Although Jacobs was open to nudity, he shared that the decision to use a prosthetic penis was made collectively.
"I'm willing to do whatever is necessary for the story and to accurately portray its authenticity," he explained. "I believe that a scene like this requires nudity to be depicted. It aligns with the high stakes of the story, leaving nothing held back."
In the second season of the HBO Max series, Cal once again revealed his sexuality to his family, and in a shocking scene, he urinated all over his foyer. Actor Dane wore a prosthetic for this particular scene, joking that it was liberating to deliver a monologue with his penis exposed. He expressed the hope that this scene would encourage people to become more comfortable with their own bodies.
Dane's TV son, Jacob Elordi, also shared his thoughts on the explicit sex scenes in Euphoria, in which he had to strip down.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2022, the star of The Kissing Booth expressed, "Every scene involves him sleeping with someone or engaging in intimate acts while being fully naked. In Euphoria, it's a fundamental aspect of the character. He embodies an ultra-masculine, macho jock, and these types of individuals tend to frequently show off their shirtless physique, so it's somewhat acceptable."

Celebrities Who Wore NSFW Prosthetic Body Parts On Screen: Eric Dane, Adam Demos and More
Committing to the role, actors have opted for wearing body prosthetics instead of fully exposing themselves on screen while filming nude scenes. Eric Dane, renowned for his portrayal of Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, has shed light on the intricacies involved in working on this particularly vulnerable aspect of the project.
"It's incredibly challenging to film those scenes. Having one voice to listen to, someone you can confide in and who advocates for the actors, makes everything a lot easier," shared the Grey's Anatomy alum with Entertainment Weekly in June 2019. "It simplifies matters and creates a safe and comfortable environment, particularly when filming something as uncomfortable as this. The pilot episode is no exception - it includes a highly intense scene."
In the pilot episode, Cal is portrayed meeting up with an underage Jules (Hunter Schafer) after connecting on a dating app. While Jacobs was open to nudity, he revealed that the decision to use a prosthetic penis was made collectively.
"I'm prepared to undertake any integral role in the narrative that contributes to an authentic and genuine portrayal of the story," he stated. "I'm struggling to comprehend how one could capture the essence of such a scene without incorporating nudity. It aligns with the profound intensity of the situation. The stakes are incredibly high, leaving no room for restraint." In the course of the HBO Max series' second season, Cal once again bared himself following his revelation of his sexual orientation to his family. Consequently, he proceeded to urinate extensively in his foyer—this scene also required Dane to wear a prosthetic."
"It's quite liberating to perform a monologue while exposing oneself," he playfully remarked to Men's Health in January 2022, reflecting on the startling moment. "I aspire for everyone to develop a greater ease and acceptance of their own bodies following this performance."
In the meantime, Dane's on-screen son, Jacob Elordi, also shared his thoughts on baring it all for explicit sex scenes in Euphoria.
"During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2022, the star of The Kissing Booth expressed, 'In every scene, it's like he's intimate with someone. It involves being naked with different individuals.' On the show Euphoria, this is simply part of the character's journey. Playing an ultra-masculine, macho jock, it's natural for such individuals to frequently appear shirtless, so it's deemed acceptable."

Sarah Shahi ('Sex/Life')
In June 2023, the actress revealed that her character's evolving physique in Sex/Life necessitated the use of prosthetic breasts during specific scenes.
"These were not my own breasts... Our prosthetics team would spend approximately 3 to 4 hours each morning applying them. I wore them for any intimate encounters with Cooper or when portraying moments of breastfeeding," she captioned a photo of herself from behind the scenes on her Instagram Story. "Observe the silicone glue right here."
Shahi explained her utilization of prosthetics while messaging Amanda Hirsch, the host of the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast, on Instagram DM. She mentioned, "I used them for the Cooper sex scenes and baby. The Brad scenes showcased my own assets because they occurred in the past, not involving breastfeeding breasts. Does that make sense?"

Hudecki shared that Sadowski underwent a complete prosthetic process both before and after the locker room moment.
Indeed, Stacy Rukeyser, the creator, remained tight-lipped regarding Sadowski's utilization of a counterfeit phallus in the crucial scene. "I cannot ascertain if it's a prosthesis," she playfully hinted in a Variety interview in March 2023. "We'll maintain our secrecy."

Taylor Zakhar Perez ('Minx')
In HBO Max's Minx, Perez portrays Shane, a former firefighter who transitions into the world of modeling and becomes the featured centerfold in an explicit women's magazine. The actor seamlessly embraces the use of a prosthetic to enhance the authenticity of the character.
"I fully support it. If the project and the scenes require it, why not?" Perez expressed to Entertainment Weekly in February 2022. "However, I believe that if a bare-chested woman or a guy showing their backside is inserted into a scene without any valid reason, then it becomes unnecessary and detracts from the overall quality of the content."
The actor from Red, White and Royal Blue further stated, "Although, I must admit, it will make me a bit nervous when my mom sees it."

Lily James and Sebastian Stan ('Pam and Tommy')
During the production of the Hulu series, James and Stan underwent a transformation with the help of prosthetic private parts as they portrayed Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. The actress from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again revealed that she dedicated four hours to undergo makeup for the filming process.
Stan engages in a complete dialogue with his genitalia, playfully voiced by Jason Mantzoukas. This mechanical prosthetic necessitated the involvement of two puppeteers.
During the filming, costume designer Kameron Lennox observed that the Marvel actor also needed prosthetics for scenes where he parades around in a silk G-string. However, the standard prosthetics designed for on-screen appearances did not aesthetically complement the costume.
"Placing his prosthetic in the G-string, Lennox remarked that it appeared as though he had significant health issues," Lennox shared with Thrillist. To achieve this effect, a specially designed "garment penis" was created by renowned makeup effects designer Jason Collins and his company Autonomous FX for scenes involving clothing. Additionally, Lennox utilized "packers," a type of stuffing, for various other scenes.
