Two new cast members have been revealed for the upcoming second half of the new Urusei Yatsura season 2 anime series, announced on November 28, 2023. They will be voicing characters previously seen in Haikyuu!! and Gintama, adding to the star-studded lineup of the series. With several other cast members already announced in recent months, it remains uncertain if these two additions will be the final ones for the season, especially considering the current release timeline for the anime.

Urusei Yatsura season 2 set to add Ayumu Murase, Koichi Sakaguchi to already impressive cast list

The release date for the Urusei Yatsura season 2 anime is set for January 2024, and a more specific premiere date is expected to be announced in December 2023. This upcoming season will conclude the 2022 reimagining of Rumiko Takahashi’s original manga series.

The official website for the Urusei Yatsura season 2 anime series has just unveiled two new additions to the cast. Ayumu Murase, famous for portraying Haikyuu!!’s Shoyo Hinata, will be taking on the role of Nagisa Shiowatari, while Koichi Sakaguchi, known for voicing Gintama’s Prince Hata, will be joining the cast as Nagisa’s Dad.

The extensive cast list for the upcoming show features Hiroshi Kamiya as Ataru Moroboshi and Sumire Uesaka as Lum. Other cast members include Maaya Uchida as Shinobu Miyake, Mamoru Miyano as Shutaro Mendo, Wataru Takagi as Cherry, and Miyuki Sawashiro as Sakura. Also joining the cast are Kana Hanazawa as Ran, Katsuyuki Konishi as Rei, Saori Hayami as Oyuki, and Shizuka Ishigami as Benten.

David Production is being directed by Takahiro Kamei, while Masaru Yokoyama is in charge of composing the music. The first season of the series debuted on Japanese television in October 2022, and HIDIVE streamed the anime weekly as it aired in Japan. HIDIVE also started streaming an English dub for the series on March 1, 2023. Viz Media started publishing the manga with new translations in Spring 2019 and described the story as follows:

"Explore the beloved romantic comedy once again as we follow the story of an unfortunate human boy who crosses paths with a stunning space alien princess. This special edition features all-new translations and redesigned cover art in a larger trim size."

"In the series, Ataru Moroboshi's extraordinary encounters with the female alien beings begin when he is selected to participate in a game of tag with an alien princess named Lum, who arrives on Earth in her UFO. Ataru must touch Lum's horns within ten days, or else the aliens will take over the Earth!"

Stay tuned for more adventures with Ataru as he encounters otherworldly beings such as the beautiful snow spirit Oyuki and the sexy crow goblin Princess Kurama. Keep up to date with all anime, manga, film, and live-action news as we move through 2023!

Editor's P/S

As a fan of the Urusei Yatsura series, I am thrilled to hear about the addition of Ayumu Murase and Koichi Sakaguchi to the cast for the upcoming second season. Murase's portrayal of Shoyo Hinata in Haikyuu!! was nothing short of exceptional, and I believe he will bring the same level of energy and passion to the role of Nagisa Shiowatari in Urusei Yatsura. Similarly, Sakaguchi's extensive experience in the industry, including his role as Prince Hata in Gintama, makes him a perfect fit for the character of Nagisa's Dad.

The chemistry between the characters in Urusei Yatsura is one of the key elements that make the series so enjoyable, and I am confident that the addition of Murase and Sakaguchi will only enhance the dynamics and bring new depth to the story. With the release date set for January 2024, I eagerly anticipate the continuation of Ataru Moroboshi's misadventures and the introduction of new otherworldly beings.
