Showrunner Chosen for 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' Series

The highly anticipated 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' series has found its showrunner, promising to captivate fans with a compelling focus on the beloved character, Lisbeth Salander Get ready for an enthralling journey into the world of this iconic series

Amazon MGM Studios has announced the development of a new series based on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and they have now found their showrunner in Veena Sud. Originally, the series was given the green light to begin development in May 2020 without a showrunner, but Amazon MGM Studios has now officially chosen Sud. Left Bank Pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television, will be producing the series. Sud is known for her work as an executive producer and showrunner on The Killing from 2011 to 2014, which was adapted from the Danish show Forbrydelsen. She has also recently collaborated with Netflix as the creator and executive producer of Seven Seconds, exploring racial tensions between New Jersey police and the Black community.

What Is 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' About?

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, based on the psychological thriller from the Millennium series by Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, follows Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. Lisbeth, an investigator scarred by emotions, joins forces with Mikael, a disgraced reporter, to unravel a cold case murder for Swedish industrialist Henrik Vanger. Henrik suspects that someone within his family is responsible for the death of his niece, Harriet. As they dig deeper into the family's secrets, they become entangled in a sinister web — reminiscent of the dark intrigue portrayed in the film Knives Out.

Showrunner Chosen for 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' Series

There are a total of three books in the Millennium series written by Larsson: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. Given the extensive source material, it should not come as a surprise that this Sud-lead Amazon series is not the first adaptation of the story. Yellow Bird, a Swedish film production company, created film versions of the initial three Millennium books in 2009. In these films, Lisbeth is portrayed by Noomi Repace, while Mikael is played by Michael Nygvist. Additionally, in 2011, a North American English-speaking film adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was released. This version stars Rooney Mara as Lisbeth, Daniel Craig as Mikael, and Christopher Plummer as Henrik.
