Summary
Grant Gustin and Matt Letscher, who played The Flash and Reverse-Flash, unite on the SAG-AFTRA picket line amid ongoing Hollywood strikes.
The Flash TV show has come to an end, leaving fans curious about the return of Gustin's Scarlet Speedster in the new DC Universe. However, James Gunn dismisses such theories. Although Gustin may not be included in DC Studios' present strategies, his iconic portrayal of The Flash potentially opens doors for a future revival of the character.
Grant Gustin and Matt Letscher, who portrayed The Flash and Reverse-Flash respectively in the popular TV series The Flash, have united on the SAG-AFTRA strike picket line. It has been nearly six months since The Flash concluded its run on The CW after an impressive decade-long presence on the network. The show's ninth season ended amidst the Writers Guild of America strike, which had commenced only a few weeks before the series finale, and the SAG-AFTRA strike began a few months after the final episode aired on The CW.
Despite recent discussions between the WGA and the AMPTP to reignite negotiations, Hollywood continues to experience ongoing strikes, with actors and writers joining forces to advocate for improved working conditions and financial arrangements. Over the past few months, numerous Hollywood actors and writers, including members of the Arrowverse, have rallied on picket lines in support of these causes.
Gustin and Letscher, who portrayed Barry Allen and Eobard Thawne on The CW drama The Flash, delighted numerous fans with their cheerful reunion. Letscher cleverly taunted the AMPTP by sharing a photo of the two DC TV veterans at the picketing line, accompanied by the famous quote "Who's the villain now, Flash?" from The Flash's own adaptation of the Flashpoint storyline in season 3. The sign, featuring the edited "AMPTP" for readability, displayed the acronym as well.
Will Grant Gustin's The Flash Ever Return In DC Live-Action Media?
Although The Flash TV show concluded this year, many are still curious if Gustin's portrayal of the Scarlet Speedster will make a comeback in some form. As DC Studios develops its new DC Universe, several Justice League heroes are being prepared for the upcoming franchise. The status of The Flash has yet to be addressed, particularly after Ezra Miller's DCEU movie. Despite speculation about a potential collaboration between the two, James Gunn refuted theories of Gustin returning as The Flash.
Currently, it does not appear that The Flash is included in DC Studios' Chapter 1, titled "Gods and Monsters," as the quickest man alive was not mentioned in the projects announced for the DC Universe in January. However, since not all of Chapter 1 was revealed, it is possible that The Flash is part of their plans. If Barry is a part of the new DC Universe, it will likely be portrayed by either Miller or a new actor, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of Gustin reprising the role in a multiverse storyline in the future.
Considering Gustin's iconic status within The Flash franchise, it wouldn't be surprising if he were to return in the future, especially since Gunn is a fan of his work. This would undoubtedly compensate for the disappointment of Gustin's absence in The Flash movie, which was intended as a grand celebration of the DC multiverse. Until that possibility materializes, fans can enjoy the entire series of The Flash by streaming it on Netflix or by purchasing the complete series Blu-Ray/DVD box set, available on August 29.
