Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 2, episodes 1-3
Summary
In order to streamline the story and consolidate characters, the second season of The Wheel of Time has chosen to replace Vandene and Hurin from the book with Verin and Elyas respectively. This decision aligns with the significance of Verin and Elyas in the original story, allowing them to play more impactful roles and drive the plot forward.
It is currently uncertain if Myrelle, another character in Lan's arc, has been included in the series, considering that two characters from the books have already been replaced in the second season of The Wheel of Time. With the vast number of characters in The Wheel of Time's world, it comes as no surprise that the live-action adaptation by Amazon has opted not to include every character that interacted with Rand, Moiraine, Perrin, and others. While important characters connected to the Dragon Reborn's mission against the Dark One have been included, it is evident that not all characters from the source material will have a role in the story.
The Wheel Of Time Season 2 Replaced Vandene With Verin
Due to the show's tendency to alter the timeline, characters who didn't originally appear alongside their book counterparts have the possibility of being introduced later on. A prime example of this is Min, whose initial encounter with Moiraine's group was pushed forward from the start of the story to the conclusion of the first season. Moreover, both Elayne and Elyas made appearances in The Eye of the World but had their introductions postponed until the events of the second book, The Great Hunt. However, for certain characters, these changes in their debuts diminish the likelihood of their inclusion in the future.
In just one episode, The Wheel of Time has eliminated the need for two book characters. In the premiere, it was revealed that Moiraine and Lan had sought shelter with two Aes Sedai sisters named Adeleas while conducting research on ancient prophecies concerning the Dark One. This occurrence took place in The Great Hunt, but with a significant alteration – Vandene has been replaced by Verin, suggesting that Vandene's character has been entirely written out of the story.

The Wheel Of Time Season 2 Replaced Hurin with Elyas Machera
Similar to the character in the show, Verin offered guidance to Moiraine and deduced that she had discovered the Dragon Reborn. Nonetheless, in The Great Hunt, Verin had her own distinct role within Moiraine's story. Based on all indications, The Wheel of Time has streamlined the cast of characters in its second season by omitting Vandene and amalgamating Verin with Adeleas' sibling. Given that Vandene plays a relatively minor role in the books, it is a logical choice for the show to utilize her original function to introduce Verin – a much more significant character in the books.Similar to the introduction of Elyas Machera in the books, the show took a comparable approach with Verin. In the novels, Ingtar's group was joined by Hurin, a skilled tracker known as a "sniffer", to assist them in locating Padan Fain. However, instead of assigning Hurin the same task in the TV series, The Wheel of Time seems to have assigned Elyas with this responsibility. Elyas, who is also referred to as a "sniffer", essentially replaces Hurin in the search for the Horn of Valere.
Although Hurin was a major character in The Great Hunt, removing him from the TV version of the story makes sense. It should be noted that Hurin was not significant beyond The Great Hunt in the books. Considering this, his exclusion only affects season 2. Choosing Elyas as a replacement for Hurin seems like a wise decision, especially because Elyas serves a specific narrative purpose. Unlike Hurin, Elyas has the ability to further the story as he shares Perrin's wolf powers. Just like the character from The Eye of the World, Elyas is necessary for Perrin to gain a true understanding of himself.
The Wheel Of Time Season 2 May Have Replaced A Third Book Character
Moreover, in The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 2, Moiraine left Lan under the care of Alanna, expressing concerns that the Green Ajah Aes Sedai might forcibly take his "bond." This reference alludes to the books, where Moiraine had arranged for the bond to be transferred to Myrelle Berengari if she were to pass away. Although Lan objected, he had no choice in the matter. Based on this interaction, it appears that The Wheel of Time may opt to assign an existing character to fulfill this role in Lan's storyline rather than introducing a new one.
Alanna and Myrelle both belong to the Green Sisters, making this scenario feasible. However, there are distinct divergences in their storylines, and The Wheel of Time has not yet reached the point where Myrelle inherits the bond. Consequently, it is challenging to ascertain whether Myrelle has been omitted from the series or not. It is worth noting that she participated in the Aes Sedai rebellion and other events at the White Tower, indicating her potential relevance in future episodes. New episodes of The Wheel of Time are released every Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
