Goodwillie's tenure at Clyde was also abruptly ended due to criticism.

He parted ways with Radcliffe FC, a team in the Northern Premier League, in February of this year, only 24 hours after making his debut. The club acknowledged that they had made a "significant misstep" in recruiting the attacking player.

Goodwillie departed from Raith Rovers in September 2022, a year following his initial signing, without ever having played a single match for the team. The decision came after facing severe criticism from various parties, including Val McDermid, a club sponsor, fans, Rape Crisis Scotland, and Nicola Sturgeon, who was the First Minister of Scotland at the time.

Furthermore, Goodwillie's arrival at Stark's Park resulted in numerous resignations among board members and club volunteers. Additionally, the club's women's team chose to undergo a rebranding, and his loan move to Clyde in the previous year was also terminated due to extensive backlash.

Goodwillie has three Scotland caps and had also played for the likes of Blackburn in the Premier League, Crystal Palace, Aberdeen and Dundee United.
