Miranda Hobbes (portrayed by Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (played by Kristin Davis) took on the role of novice detectives in the recent episode of And Just Like That, which aired on Thursday, August 10. Their investigation revolved around the romantic involvement between Miranda's son, Brady (portrayed by Niall Cunningham), and Charlotte's daughter, Lily (played by Cathy Ang).
Miranda wants to help her estranged husband Steve's son, Brady, who is struggling after his breakup with Luisa. She wants him to become more enthusiastic about college, so she devises a clever plan: she suggests that Brady spends time with Lily, a studious individual, in order to refocus his academic mindset.
"Brady has forbidden me from discussing anything regarding college," Miranda complained to Charlotte over the phone. "But Lily is highly motivated, so I thought maybe if they spent time together, her success would inspire him. It's like osmosis!... Charlotte, my son is currently working in a fast-food restaurant. I don't want his greatest accomplishment to be perfecting crinkle-cut fries."
Charlotte, an art dealer who recently resumed working, expressed the need to assess Lily's interest before making any commitments. When Charlotte asked Lily if she would spend time with Brady, the teenage pianist was skeptical due to their lack of interaction over the years.
"Why? We haven't spent time together since that ski trip when I was 12 and he was 14," Lily reminded her mother, with sibling Rock (Alexa Swinton) chiming in to mention that Brady didn't leave his sleeping bag throughout the entire trip.

In the next scene, Miranda is taken aback when she catches sight of Lily leaving Brady's bedroom without pants. Startled, Lily greets her aunt with a "Morning, Aunt Miranda," while donning only an oversized tank top with a "New York" print, presumably borrowed from Brady, before returning back to the bedroom.
Miranda promptly rang Charlotte, who confessed to knowing that Lily was staying over because they had important matters to discuss.
"I can't say for certain how much talking they actually did," remarked Miranda, who had moved in with her friend Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman) following her separation from Steve. "I don't know how to say this delicately, but I strongly believe they got together... When I went there this morning to take a shower, there were no signs of sleeping on the couch and Lily emerged from Brady's room. She wasn't wearing any pants!"

During a casual lunch at Chipotle, the two best friends from Sex and the City attempted to uncover the relationship status of their children. In an unexpected revelation, Charlotte mentioned that Brady did not fit the usual criteria of Lily's preferred type of guy. Fueling their detective instincts, Miranda and Charlotte, who believed they had open lines of communication with Lily, observed Brady and Lily's interactions closely when they all attended a political campaign fundraiser for Herbert Wexley, hosted by Christopher Jackson.
"They're definitely up to something," Miranda said, jesting with a smirk as Brady headed to the kitchen to locate Lily and Rock. "There's no chance he would agree to accompany me to this event otherwise, no offense."
Carrie Bradshaw, appearing perplexed, sought clarification, prompting Charlotte to elaborate on their theory. "Well, that's akin to discovering that two of my stuffed animals are engaging in intimate relations," Carrie responded with deadpan humor.
Brady and Lily's actions left their mothers wondering, as they both sensed something significant occurred when Brady casually brushed Lily's arm during their conversation. "I can't determine if it was deliberate or not," pondered Charlotte.
