United States’ women’s national soccer team alums Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger have split after nearly four years of marriage.

Harris, aged 37, initiated divorce proceedings against Krieger, aged 39, on September 19 in Florida, as verified by the Seminole County Clerk. We have contacted the representatives of Harris and Krieger for their statements.

The soccer players got married in December 2019 and subsequently adopted two children – a daughter named Sloane, who is 2 years old, and a son named Ocean, who is 14 months old. Harris and Krieger first met while playing for the USWNT in 2010 and successfully managed the challenges of simultaneously being both romantic partners and teammates throughout their relationship.

Harris and Krieger prioritized their team above all else, as expressed in a joint interview with Allure for the outlet's August 2020 cover story, when they were both playing for the Orlando Pride and the USWNT. They revealed that they rarely stayed in the same room while on the road, emphasizing the importance of sleep for their recovery. This lack of quality time together was a challenge that they had to intentionally overcome, despite the frequency of their interactions.

Since then, both Harris and Krieger have retired from professional soccer. Harris made the announcement in November 2022 at the Player's Ball in New York City, while Krieger shared her career update during a March interview on CBS Mornings.

Krieger expressed that the present moment was opportune for her decision, highlighting that the upcoming 2023 NWSL season would mark her final one. Recognizing the substantial effort she has dedicated to the sport and the rewards it has brought her, she emphasized that both mentally and physically, she sensed the timing was right. In addition to this, Krieger eagerly anticipated having a schedule that would enable her to be present for her children's morning wake-ups and nighttime routines.

“These are the moments that us moms truly treasure," she expressed. Furthermore, Krieger provided glimpses into her and Harris' love story through social media before their separation.

"You make every day feel like a celebration, my love! ️ I adore you!" she wrote, alongside a picture of the two of them on Instagram in December 2022. "Also, congratulations on being so incredible and affectionate that I want to spend another year with you!"

Having revealed their engagement in March 2019, the ex-partners swiftly gained recognition as an influential LGBTQ+ couple.

Krieger expressed concerns about losing sponsorships and potentially her job if she were to embrace her true self. During a November 2022 interview on the "Five Rings to Rule Them All" podcast, she emphasized the importance of visibility, particularly in comparison to when they were younger. Krieger and Ash have adopted a strategic approach to showcasing their lives and living authentically.

On the same podcast, Harris shared her perspective, stating that she reached a stage where she would rather risk losing everything, including her career, than continue living a false identity.
