Tenoch Huerta, known for his role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has decided to step away from his upcoming project at Netflix. The project, written by Nicolás Giacobone, has not yet announced a replacement.
Black Panther, which introduced the Marvel character of the same name, made a significant impact in 2018 with its portrayal of an African superhero. The film received widespread acclaim for its diverse cast and intricate world-building, serving as an origin story for T'Challa. Despite the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, a sequel titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was planned and underwent revisions. Early rumors suggested that Tenoch Huerta would be cast as the character Namor.
Despite undergoing swimming lessons for his role as Namor in Black Panther 2, Huerta successfully portrayed the villain, earning praise from fans for his debut in the MCU. However, his promising career has been overshadowed by accusations of sexual abuse and misconduct made by María Elena Ríos. Huerta acknowledged their past relationship as "loving, warm, and mutually supportive" but announced their separation in a recent statement. In light of these allegations, Huerta has decided to withdraw from his role in Fiesta En La Madriguera. He vehemently denies the accusations, asserting that their relationship was consensual throughout.
In a statement, the actor expressed his perspective on the departure, citing the negative impact of María Elena Ríos' false statements and the ensuing damage they have caused. With regret, he made the decision to withdraw from participating in the film Fiesta en la Madriguera. Not only does he refuse to allow her actions to harm himself, but also the dedicated individuals involved in the project. His main focus now is to restore his reputation. Unfortunately, these accusations have already cast a shadow on Huerta, especially considering his breakthrough role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was widely regarded as one of the best characters.
Less than a month ago, Netflix announced Fiesta En La Madriguera as part of their upcoming content slate, which includes various exciting projects like Chris Hemsworth's Extraction 2. The official synopsis from Netflix describes Fiesta en la Madriguera as the tale of Tochtli, a boy who has a fondness for hats, dictionaries, samurais, guillotines, and all things French. His current desire is to acquire a Namibian pygmy hippo for his private zoo. Tochtli's father, Yolcaut, is willing to fulfill his son's every whim, even if it involves an endangered exotic animal. This is because Yolcaut will always find a way to make it happen.
Marvel Studios may refrain from taking any immediate action in response to the serious accusations until they are proven in court. This approach aligns with the company's previous handling of similar situations, such as their decision not to address the departure of Jonathan Majors when other companies did. Consequently, fans will have to exercise patience to witness the unfolding of the truth behind the allegations and, subsequently, the fate of Huerta's involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" can be streamed on Disney Plus.
