Marvel's latest installment, Secret Invasion, delves into a treacherous Skrull conspiracy that leaves no room for trust. Headlined by the formidable Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), this gripping series takes us on a journey where the green-skinned, shape-shifting Skrulls, initially introduced in Captain Marvel (2019), return to Earth after nearly three decades. However, a sinister menace arises in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, posing an unprecedented challenge for our heroes.
Having returned to Earth for the first time since the events involving Thanos and the Blip, Nick Fury has mysteriously disappeared. His sudden absence is attributed to his mission of thwarting a covert Skrull plot to take over the planet. Despite the alliance between the Skrulls and Fury, formed when he and Captain Marvel saved them from the Kree Empire in the 90s, a faction of disillusioned Skrulls has emerged, intent on claiming Earth as their own. Unfortunately, the Skrulls have failed to fulfill their promise of providing a new home for these exiles, leading to a widespread conspiracy and infiltration that poses a grave threat to the entire human population. As the new Marvel show unfolds, the audience will be exposed to the shocking revelation of various characters who have been replaced by Skrull imposters.
Everett Ross
In the first episode of Marvel's Secret Invasion, a shocking revelation occurred as it was unveiled that Agent Everett Ross (played by Martin Freeman), formerly of the CIA, was actually a Skrull infiltrator. Unmasked by Talos (portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn), a Skrull ally of Nick Fury, the imposter Ross was relentlessly pursued through the bustling streets of Moscow, eventually meeting his demise by falling off a rooftop. Notably present in both the 2018 film Black Panther and its upcoming sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the whereabouts of the real Everett Ross remain unknown.
It is possible that Ross is currently in the custody of Gravik, the leader of the Skrull Council who has initiated this new conflict. Like many humans who have been replaced by Skrulls, several individuals are being held captive at an abandoned nuclear plant known as "New Skrullos". It can be assumed that the real Ross was substituted by a Skrull shortly after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Despite Ross being arrested for treason, he was later freed by General Okoye and it is believed that he joined forces with Maria Hill, as shown in the premiere of Secret Invasion. Given his connection to Hill and, consequently, Nick Fury, it is likely that Ross became a prime target.
Every Character Impersonated By Skrulls But Not Taken Over
Nick Fury
In a shocking turn of events, the premiere episode of Secret Invasion revealed Gravik's cunning plan. Posing as Nick Fury, Gravik seized the opportunity to catch Maria Hill off guard and took advantage of her vulnerability. With a cold-hearted act, the Skrull leader fired a fatal shot, leaving Hill lifeless amidst the chaos and panic-stricken crowd. The bitter twist of fate was not lost as Hill's last conversation with the true Fury had been a forewarning of the impending battle and the inevitable casualties it would bring.
